Will Buxton has never really liked Lando, so him backing Oscar so passionately is not a surprise. You could put Logan in that other seat and Will would probably back him before Lando.
Also, Zak loves money and winning, he is a business man before anything else. He would not hesitate to drop either Lando or Oscar if they stopped performing and bringing in sponsor money. And at the moment both drivers are exactly where they need to be for him, bringing in biggest points for WCC and 1-2 in WDC. I don’t think Zak cares who is ahead as long as the points are coming in. A lot of people have this notion in their head that Zak loves Lando the most but that’s just not true. He might get on with him as a person but Zak’s main goal is money and F1 is still a business. And I’m sure both drivers are well aware of this as well.
Do I think McLaren has made some questionable decisions lately on social media? Absolutely (especially that team picture debacle from Sunday). But I don’t believe they’ve done this because they prefer one driver over another. I think it’s more because, again, they have two drivers fighting for wins and they don’t know how to balance that. To me it’s more that their sm team might need some more training, not that McLaren doesn’t like Lando anymore.
⬆️⬆️⬆️ cosigned all this, exactly. i think zak has paternal energy with lando because he's been in his life since lando was three apples tall (like 17yo) and he's proud of him, but fundamentally lando is a business asset like a favorite racehorse to him, and he would not hesitate to put him out to pasture and bring in a new horse if he stopped performing
