Lucien stays for three days.

He sleeps on Eris’s couch and doesn’t leave him alone for more than an hour at a time during the day. He orders food—real food, not the granola bars and coffee that have constituted Eris’s diet for months—and watches Eris eat some bites of it. He sits with him through the first night of not taking Adderall, when Eris is exhausted but can’t sleep, when his hands shake and his head feels like it’s full of cotton and his brain moves at half-speed.

“You have to go through it,” Lucien says at two AM, when Eris is pacing his living room because lying still is unbearable. “Your body has to remember how to work without the drugs. It’s going to feel awful for a while.”

“How long is a while?”

“I don’t know. Weeks? A month?” Lucien looks at him with something like pity. “You need to see a doctor. A real one. You can’t just stop taking Adderall cold turkey after—how long have you been taking it?”

“Five years,” Eris says. “Give or take.”

Lucien closes his eyes briefly. “Jesus, Eris.”

“I know.”

“We’re finding you a doctor tomorrow. And a therapist. Mom gave me a name—someone her friend’s son saw. Dr. Amaline.”

Eris almost laughs. Of course his mother had given Lucien a toolkit to deal with his big brother’s shit. “Sounds lovely.”

“We’re calling her tomorrow.”

They do. Lucien makes the call while Eris sits there feeling like his skin doesn’t fit right, like his brain is moving through molasses. The receptionist says Dr. Amaline can see him Thursday at six PM. Three days away. It feels both too soon and impossibly far.

Lucien also takes him to a doctor who listens to the full story—five years of Adderall, increasing doses, the weight loss and muscle cramps and destroyed sleep—and doesn’t lecture, just looks tired.

“You need to taper,” the doctor says. “Stopping suddenly after this long is dangerous. You could have seizures.”

So they work out a schedule. He has to reduce the dose by a quarter every two weeks. It’ll take months to get to zero, and even then, the doctor says, his brain chemistry has been altered. It might take a year or more for his body to fully recalibrate. He might need other medications to manage the withdrawal. He’ll definitely need supervision.

Eris takes the prescription for a lower dose and feels like he’s being given a reprieve and a sentence simultaneously.

Lucien leaves for home on Thursday morning. Before he leaves, he makes Eris promise to call after the therapy appointment. And to call if things get bad. And to text every day so Lucien knows he’s alive.

“I’m not going to let you disappear again,” Lucien says at the door. “You understand that, right? If you fall off the grid, I’m coming back.”

“I understand.”

Lucien hugs him, hard. “I love you. I’ve always loved you. Even when you were being an asshole.”

“I know,” Eris says, and his voice comes out rough. “I love you too.”

After Lucien leaves, the apartment feels emptier than it ever has.

A version of a previous prompt where, instead of Danny possessing Tim entirely, the summoning circle was intended to make the sacrifice the sole beneficiary of the exchange (an error in interpretation that the cultists unknowingly made). Meaning, Danny is forcefully placed inside Tim's body and Tim Drake is now a very powerful being that is syphoning power from the summoned entity inside his body.

To make things worse, Tim and Danny can't communicate, so Danny has to mess with Tim constantly to make him realize that the soul inside of him wants OUT! Preferably before they begin to meld.
