I’m out of a job.

I hate making these kinds of posts but now this whole pandemic has gotten personal. Of course my heart has always gone out to those affected by the virus and especially those in Wuhan China, but I didn’t think it would affect me that much.

Well I was wrong. I am not scared about getting sick, I know that I will be fine even though I do have asthma. Otherwise I’m really healthy and get over illness fast.

No I’m worried about not being able to pay rent. To not be able to complete my move to Chicago this summer. Im worried that I’ll go hungry. I’m worried about my mom who works in an ER. I’m worried about people with immunocompromised immune systems. I’m worried about the elderly.

I don’t really see this as an illness for me. I’m my case it’s more like a mandatory government shutdown that puts a massive pause on EVERYTHING. But a lot of lower to middle class people like myself can’t AFFORD to take a pause or a break.

Both my boyfriend and I got temporarily laid off for the time being. That’s what that snippet of the e-mail I received today says. Well that we will be shut down until further notice... but the really scary thing is that, we have no idea how long that will be. My other restaurant job has extremely limited hours. I had asked before massive shut downs to be put on more hours because of a scheduling mishap but my boss told me he already started cutting back. Now I’m sure he too will be closing the store or at least only doing carry out orders. And like he said, he’s only taking one server, one cook, and himself.

I’m not too sure what to do. I have been taking up commissions but it’s definitely not enough to pay my bills. I had been working so hard these past couple months hoping that after tax season I would be able to catch a break and not have to live paycheck to paycheck anymore and get to enjoy some of my hard earned money.

But it looks like that won’t be the case.
