“I don’t make bad investments-” Anden continues, and he can tell I’m about to interrupt him, so he grabs my shoulder, “I’m not done, listen, if you don’t believe anything else I say, believe that you’re here because I want you to be, and that I teach you because I want to.”

I don’t know what to do about anything Anden said to me, or the softness in his expression, or the warmth radiating from his hands on me like rays from the sun. I start by closing my mouth and remembering to breathe.

Oddly enough, in this whole mess, my best resource and the only friend I’ve got without any tangled strings attached is Anden.

I never expected to rely on Anden the way I do, or trust him like I’m about to.
