Just a concerned community member here. After paralleling your life narrative to some pretty "high" culture (Shakespeare, Mozart, etc), you then wrote that "it would be good for us Syracusans to retain our sense of history and of humor – and to avoid hubris." It just seems ironic. I would ask, WHOSE history and WHOSE humor must we retain? Because, in fact, the history, or ahistory, that you tell is deeply violent, erasing the University's role and the region's history in settler colonialism. You do realize we are occupying land of the Onondaga Nation? Let's get you some #AndreaSmith articles because, in fact, that whole hubris thing is YOUR problem.

  Also, if you're looking for plays and media to watch, how about checking out the media from the Onondaga Nation. You just might learn something to quell your hubris in those videos. Well, one can hope.
