Right Place, Right Time (haley/andy oneshot)

Summary: 9x21 rewrite. Haley lands in the hospital due to her Nerp patches after the disasterous lunch with Arvin's parents, but this time Andy did come all the way from Utah, and he's not quite able to make himself leave.

The sterile white of the hospital room presses in on Haley when she wakes up. She feels pale and brittle, still coming down after being wired with the wrong kind of energy courtesy of Nerp, surprised that she's spoken out loud when she asks, “What happened?”

The nurse slides open the privacy curtain, apparently having been creepily waiting on the other side, but answers, “You passed out. You absorbed some pretty terrible chemicals from those stickers you had pasted all over you.

“Oh my God."

“Don't worry, we're flushing out your system,” the woman reassures. “In the meantime, we've called your emergency contacts. Your boyfriend is here."

The last person she wants to see is Arvin, even if she doesn't fully remember the details of what she said she remembers how awful he had made her feel this afternoon.

So when Andy appears in the doorway, breathless and rumpled as if he’d sprinted all the way from Utah, the sight is so jarring it takes her a moment to process it. Is she just having a hallucination caused by her parents freaking out over her meeting Arvin's dad? I mean hadn't her dad literally said, Don't get me excited I'm still recovering from Andy? just this morning?

"Andy?" she asks, unsure.

“Hey sunshine.” He waves.
