Reposted from @molecule_of_the_day (@get_regrann) - Anethole, also known as anise camphor, is an organic compound widely used as a flavouring substance 🥘. It contributes a large component of the odour and flavour of anise, liquorice, fennel, star anise and camphor. Commercially, anethole is used as flavouring for alcoholic drinks 🍸, seasoning and pastries 🍰. It is also used in oral hygiene products. Interestingly, anethole has antimicrobial 🦠 properties, and is also a promising insecticide against mosquitoes 🦟. Thanks 🙏 anonymous for the suggestion!
