Angelum Trio Cuddles!
ANGELUM
Species overview
⚠️ Old designs and lore // Do not reblog ⚠️
__
The Angelum have been in the Wider Galactic Community for centuries, and knowledge of their existence extends far beyond the Zhagaviit system. They were the first non-hostile alien species encountered by humanity. Hailing from the low-gravity planet Hanidias, they are highly advanced with technology rivalling that of any other species.
It is a testament to their resolve that the Angelum have managed to survive to this day, considering their tormented history.
Angelum are usually categorized into three ‘choirs’, subspecies which fall under the umbrella term ‘Angelum’. They are the Sacrazoa, Thronalia and Seraphae.
The Sacrazoa make up 77% of the population, making them the most commonly seen choir. They hold up societal infrastructure. The Sacrazoa possess an air bladder which allows them to control their position while airborne, akin to a fish in water. They also have one arm/tail for dexterity.
The Thronalia are confined to the ground, although they can easily traverse difficult terrain. The green feeler-esque appendages capture floating microscopic organisms. Sometimes they act as extra hands.
The Seraphae resemble a superorganism. Their larvae mature into Serapha, which then join the chain of many others. Each chain consists of up to 100 individuals which form a collective consciousness. As old ones die, new ones get replaced. Their wings absorb chemical nutrients pumped into their air by the many volcanoes in Hanidias. There is a lot of tectonic activity on the planet, which results in a lot of dust and moisture in the atmosphere.
The Angelum were not always separated into three subspecies. Millenia ago they were among the first ‘test subjects’ for Genizix, the infamous weapon-making organization. This was a highly experimental era for Genizix, who were beginning to invest in bioweaponry and genetic modification. Their power and sheer numbers allowed them to take over Hanidias, where they spent years genetically engineering Angelum into weapons. Nine choirs were created, each one specializing in a certain area. Genizix brainwashed them and used them to spread their influence across the galaxy, and the species became widely feared. However, six of these choirs went extinct; despite being deadly, they had fatal flaws in their genetics which led to their downfall. Only three choirs remained.
Eventually Genizix, after losing their best weapons, left Hanidias to pursue better opportunities. Although these ages have long since passed, the effects are still felt today. Angelum are often stereotyped as distrustful, dangerous, and loyal to Genizix. This is contradictory, as many feel nothing but anger towards the organization.
There are still traces of the Angelum’s original forms. Through all the genetic modification, the larval stage remained the same. However, it never develops into a normal Angelum, and instead ‘molts’ into one of the three choirs after three weeks.
One of the reasons why the species is so technologically advanced today is because of the need for machinery to allow them to live efficiently. Because of Genizix’s tampering with the gene pool, lots of Sacrazoa are born with backwards wings - limiting their range of movement. Thus, ships known as Lifepods were invented for everyday use. These sometimes vaguely resemble their original forms, and can be used off-planet.
Take, for instance, Periwinkle’s mech. This is one of the smaller models, developed by Elvoirs School of Space Exploration for their Angelum students. Although it has no flight mechanism, it has many other advanced features which are absent in standard Lifepods.
This is Daybreak, a Higher Angelum and the only one of their kind. They were designed thousands of years ago as Genizix’s ultimate weapon, but managed to escape containment and had enough free will to turn against them. Daybreak helped rebuild civilization after the organization’s departure and is the Angelum ambassador in the Wider Galactic Community. She is highly respected and regarded as a leader by many.
(Note: Angelum communicate telepathically in abstract concepts rather than actual language. This means that Daybreak is also frequently referred to as Dawn, Sunrise or First Light.)
The Angelum as a species have endured horrors beyond comprehension, but despite everything they still make a point to enjoy their daily lives. Every year that they continue to heal and thrive is a spit in the face to Genizix.

Angelum Trio lore...!
When Acacius was growing up, there were only two other Angelum on his home planet, Zion, that he trusted more than anyone since he was little; Neo and Zharka.
Neo, despite the standards other formal Angelum have, is loud and loves being chaotic, pulling pranks, and wrestling around! She's kind to the staff and wants everyone to let loose and enjoy life. She genuinely wants the best for everyone and to protect Zion, even if she's thought of as a troublemaker.
Zharka has always been strong, even when little, but has always been careful with that strength around those he cherishes. He's fiercely protective over his friend's and himself, not tolerating any slander or choices that others make for them. He loves joining Acacius and Neo in all of their antics, and wishes they could never be separated.
All three of their families lived atop the clouds of Zion, playing games and pranks and getting all the snacks they could want from the villages on the surface! They get their own armor once older and enroll in training together, making a game out of who could beat who in training first!
They were expected to act pretty formal usually, but being teenagers, they were allowed to let loose and be the chaotic gremlins they were at heart. Training to become warriors to protect the planet from any and all threats was a huge responsibility... so it was only fair.
All of them are pretty distant from their families for different reasons- Acacius' family are a bunch of gossipers, Neo's family is just too formal for her, and Zharka's family is super religious. Their families don't care for who they really are, so they confide in each other for support and love.
Things couldn't possibly be any better for the three of them, becoming heroes of legend in due time.
But then comes... the prophecy.

A collection of early concept sketches for the Sea Crawlers and Angelum (amongst other random doodles). The first iterations of Crawlers were originally terrestrial and hexapodal! Their proportions have undergone a lot of changes.
Also featured are some Day concepts, a scrapped Crawler character, and Vreaz's first appearance.

The gang’s all here!
You’ll never guess how I spent my weekend (cough cough painstakingly drawing their references one by one) <3 I know I haven’t fully introduced all the species yet, but I wanna draw comics with these guys so bad. So I figured I’d go ahead and shine the spotlight on the main cast of Vivere before I go any further.
Vreaz, Max, Peri, Esznat, and Ozeic are a bunch of first-cycle ESSE students in the same spaceflight class. One day they were split off into teams and these five just happened to be lumped together. On the same day, they were attacked by a Genizix squadron trying to test a new wormhole-creating weapon. As a result, they were sent lightyears away from the Zhagaviit system and now must do their best to survive in deep space. Vreaz is the captain of the crew.
First up we have Max! He is a part of the third generation of post-humans. He’s very sweet and a bit of a people-pleaser. On the day of the attack they were assigned the role of Spacecraft Intelligence aboard the training ship, but also acts as First Officer, Navigator, and Security. A lot of jobs, but as a computer multitasking is second-nature for them. Max and Vreaz have been friends for a while, and they keep him from getting into fights.
Next up, Periwinkle (Peri for short)! Xe is an angelum of the sacrazoa variety. Peri was assigned engineer, due to xir passion for machines and systems. However, it is rare to see xem actually do work, as xe is usually goofing off or getting distracted. Peri also enjoys earth pop culture, memes, and gaming. Xe occasionally streams (and has quite a substantial following).
Esznat is the excitable scientist of Vreaz’s crew. She is a splitfang, a tree-dwelling sophont. She’s the most sociable of the group and also the most adventure-seeking, unafraid of going into dangerous situations to gather samples or to poke something she shouldn’t. Esznat is well-known by the teachers in Elvoirs for ditching guidelines and putting her own ‘spin’ on assignments.
Last but not least, Ozeic. He’s a Northern Sicklehorn (more colloquially known as ‘space unicorns’) and is notorious for being the biggest and baddest in the entire grade. Over the years he’s acquired a hefty amount of detentions for bullying and missed homework. Ozeic also has a reputation for being the type of student you don’t want in your group project, but Vreaz is determined to bring out his full potential. He was assigned the defence role (although whether he would actually defend anyone is another story).

So there’s all the silly alien kids! I love them all dearly and am itching to flesh out their characters more. Feel free to shoot me an ask if you’re curious about them!
