Could you explain how names work in lord of the rings? Because I WAS under the impression that “greenleaf” was legolas’ last name

uhh so I’m a bit hazy on this myself but this is my understanding:

only hobbits & breefolk have last names as we’d understand em

humans & dwarves all use patronymics or where they are from e.g. gimli son of gloin, boromir of gondor

iirc elves all have unique names? so possibly don’t need a surname-equivalent... not sure about that

so I don’t actually know what legolas’s full name would be or if he even really has one but ‘greenleaf’ isn’t it, it’s just the literal meaning of his name that’s used as an epithet for him sometimes.

i don’t know who the second should be but i want the person who says “davenport!” to be, just, a wildly different voice from when he gets his voice back. no explanation.

What is the mango meme?? I love the cosmere and I somehow missed that post

oh boy it’s kind of a wild ride. it also has absolutely NOTHING to do with the cosmere

so like last year? or so? @aplpaca mentioned this random thought she had of an image of a mango with “this slaps of piracy” over it, over on the CosCrew discord

and someone else was like “we can make this a meme we should make this a real thing”

so we did? a few people posted variations of it on tumblr, and people noticed (primarily cosmere people, because everyone in the cosmere fandom is mutuals within like three degrees of separation), and everyone was confused, and because people on discord are chaotic, they decided to mess with people

by which i mean someone sent an ask to someone about what it meant and we got the answer that it was this really obscure reference from dragonsteel, aka brandon’s thesis which is only available in the BYU library 

anyway people ran with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  it’s somehow stayed within cosmere circles because we all follow each other i guess?? we have a mango emote in the discord now

For the dice thing: her name is Aurora, she’s a chaotic-neutral human rogue. She accidentally got her best friend/mentor killed, then brought him back via a necromancer which he did NOT appreciate, so she’s been dealing with the guilt from that series of events. And she would For Sure bang a dragon

ooohhh i really like the idea of a backstory where they’ve already gone on a different adventure but now they’re trapped dealing with the repercussions. it’s a nice subversion if a lot of dnd character tropes! aurora sounds like a sweetheart too, but one that’s definitely a little too ready for action which i’m a Big fan of

I’ve been playing Secret World Legends again, and one of the enemies you encounter in the game is, indeed, the rakshasa. Every time I see one, I say it that way. If my hands weren’t occupied on the keyboard & mouse, I can guarantee I’d also be doing jazz hands.
