MC picked at the bandages on their arm, not wanting to meet anyone's eyes. How had the year gone so horribly wrong? Lord Diavolo had invited them back for another year in the exchange program, as an ambassador this time, to help the 4 new human students get situated and feel welcomed. A simple task turned impossible when not even 6 months later there are 6 dead bodies, 3 of the 8 exchange students are missing, and half of the Devildom wants to wage war with the human realm. It had taken a week of negotiations, but they eventually reached an agreement- there would be no war on the humans, and all the humans currently in the Devildom would be allowed to live... only if they had their memories erased and never returned to the Devildom. The brothers had been pretty vocal in their opposition, and with the way Mammon and Satan were yelling, it wouldn't be a reach to imagine them killing half the Devildom to protect MC. But Lord Diavolo had the last call in this, and the brothers came to realize there was no other way out. If they wanted to see MC alive, they had to leave, even if it meant MC wouldn't remember them.
The other exchange students were sent home over the past week, each interrogated to see if there was any possibility of salvaging the exchange program. Now MC was the last one left and every excuse possible had already been used, there were no more reasons they could give for staying here and the student body was getting restless. MC had to leave by tomorrow morning, or the citizens of the Devildom had every right to storm the human realm. They'd said almost all of their goodbyes, all of their possessions given away or donated and now MC handed over their DDD to Diavolo. He fidgeted with it, tracing the grooves of where MC's fingerprint still lingered.
"I truly am sorry MC. I wish I could have found another solution, but a wise king must also pay attention to the needs of his kingdom. What the Devildom needs right now is stability, and assurance that my priorities are still straight. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to meet you and have you in the program." Lord Diavolo takes a deep breath, ready to say more, but no amount of pretty words could soothe the broken hearts in the council room today. He can't even manage a pretend smile for MC, only hugging them when they put their arms up, and holding on for a few seconds after MC lets go.
"Goodnight MC." He gives them a knowing look and walks out of the council room, Barbatos and the brothers following behind him. Even the one that still had hope that this wasn't happening.
"Denizens of darkness, hear me and do as I command. I call upon Mammon the avatar of greed to stay right there." There is no actual command in MC's voice, just teasing all the times they've had to summon him before, but Mammon still lingers behind. He could never ignore them. MC waited until everyone else filed out before taking Mammon's hands, rubbing circles into them. "Were you really going to let me leave without saying goodbye?"
"You're not leaving."
"Mammon-"
"Damn you MC," Mammon pulls them in to a tight hug "why do you have to be so selfless. Why can't you just stay here with me."
"You know why." MC can't help but let their voice crack, and hug Mammon tighter. "There's nothing else we can do now." MC wishes they could manipulate time like Barbatos and Diavolo, spread these seconds into years so they'd never feel alone, but they also knew the longer they stayed in Mammon's arms, the more likely they were to try to start an interdimensional war to stay with him. And that didn't end so well for their great-great grandmother.
So instead they blink away their tears and pull back, giving a fake haughty look with their fists on their hips. "Because I'm selfish, I have one last demand for you." MC stares at Mammon's shoulder, knowing that their resolve will crumble if they look him in the eyes, and takes a breath for their final request.
"You're going to stay here and hold me until I fall asleep, and leave before I wake up."
The second part wasn't really at MC's request, but an inevitable part of their leaving. And as much as MC loved the rest of the brothers, this was all their heart could handle. One last night with their first man.
"Of course I will." Mammon moves a few things around, trying to make a comfortable bed on the ground for him and MC. Thankfully, he knew exactly where Belphie kept his pillows and blankets around RAD and was able to make a decent nest-bed. He lets MC get settled in first before using his jacket to cover them both.
"I'm going to stay awake as long as possible." MC whispers to him- no one else in this realm deserves their words right now. They pull out their phone and snuggle closer to Mammon. "Do you want to watch the new movie review that dropped or-" A knock on the council room door silences them, and Levi walks in. He can't muster a smile for their Henry, and instead holds up a dvd and a projector.
"Hey, I just wanted to give you this. I know you won't.... but for now at least..." Levi's sentences drop off, so he hurries to set up the projector and put in the DVD, patting MC on the head one last time before walking out. On the screen, a purple-pink title card pops up "Memories you may have forgotten". And the movie starts.
A slideshow of videos and photos of MC's time in the Devildom. Shopping trips and spa nights with Asmo. Cooking competitions and annual prank wars. Anti-Lucifer League meetings with Lucifer standing ominously in the corner. Every time MC and Mammon couldn't escape punishment and wound up strung up together. The weekends spent at Diavolo's castle and surprisingly, quite a few photos of them being chased by Henry 1.0 through the maze under the palace.
Mammon and MC laughed and tossed comments back and forth throughout the slideshow, one memory leading to another, inside jokes that had been forgotten, revived. Mammon continued to joke around and comment on how funny or cute MC looked, even as their eyes grew heavy and finally closed. Through tears he continued to laugh and joke until the end of the film- even if they won't remember, he wants happy memories to follow them into their dreams.
-------------
MC wakes up in a cold bed, groaning, and stretches out to reach for his hand. When their hand touches the empty bed, they sit up, disoriented, looking for... something. They blink once, twice, and their room comes into focus. Everything is right where it's supposed to be, but MC still feels a heavy weight on their chest. They tap the empty bed besides them again, but don't know who they expected to be there.
"I probably had a nightmare." So MC gets up and starts getting ready for their day, as they always have, and will always will, never understanding why certain foods or colors send a pang of guilt and sadness into their chest.
New Midwest Bi Disaster Zukka story update: “Aftermath”! And, oh no, it starts with angst. Definitely following closely on the heels of “The Angst Day” and Zuko dealing with some past trauma and PTSD. And here comes Azula, to make it worse...
But this chapter we do also get Katara having her baby, and in the larger story, there’s still plenty of fluff and sweetness and emotional support, just like always. Just... it takes a few chapters to get there because no one is making good choice here at the beginning.
Here is a cat grooming a puppy by way of apology :)
Dream's armor wasn't maxed out, he didn’t have thorns or any quality of life enchantments. He reduced himself to a weapon. A "nightmare" for other people. But even in that he still didn't want to hurt other people unless he chose to. He play-fought when George and Sapnap were still his friends, he was careful to count his hits. Getting them low but never killing them thorns would mess that up and he would rather have less powerful armor than risk hurting his friends. After he leaves them his lack of thorns become a symbol, everything he does is deliberate. He doesn't want to bring pain in that he can't guide towards making the world better again. Even at his expense.

He didn’t mean to fall out of love with you. Who does? Falling out of love with someone... you can’t plan it, you can’t predict it.
It just happens.
Things change over time. You two had been together since your second year of high school, almost six years. You knew that going into a relationship with a hero-in-training wouldn’t be easy, but you were up for the challenge, hoping that your love would be enough. And it was, at least for a while.
He was a hot-head and could be rude, but you loved him regardless. People told you not to get into a relationship with him, that it would be too difficult, that you’d just end up with your heart broken. But you didn’t care, they were wrong. They didn’t know him like you did.
...but in the end they were right.
Five years.
You’ve been with Katsuki for five years and all of a sudden he started to talk less and less to you. Even though you lived together it felt as if you were living alone. He was never home anymore, he’d leave early and come home late. If you called him he wouldn’t respond. If you texted him he would either give you a short answer or no answer. You rarely even saw him anymore.
Despite everything, you had hope. Hope that he would return to his former self. Hope that maybe one day you’d come home and he’d be waiting for you with open arms.
That day never came.
It was your six year anniversary and you wanted to make things extra special. Every year on your anniversary you’d always plan something special, but seeing how Bakugou had been so distant you wanted to do something more special, more memorable and significant to the two of you. So you decided to recreate your first date. Your first date where you had confessed your feelings for each other.
The day before your anniversary, for the first time in forever Bakugou talked to you. Before he had a chance to leave you asked him if he could come home early the next day. He nodded and left.
Your anniversary started out just like any other day. Bakugou went to work early, leaving you cold and alone when you woke up. Except today you were excited to get up so you could start setting up everything for your anniversary. Your first date was a small picnic in a secluded area. You made the food for the picnic and headed to the picnic site to set everything up.
As soon as everything was prepared and you triple checked everything you texted your boyfriend the address and told him to come when he got out of work, which was in about thirty minutes, at least that’s what he promised.
An hour.
Two hours.
Three hours.
He never showed.
You went home, cold, furious, and depressed. Bakugou had taken so long that you ended up having to eat half of the food you prepared. It was already eleven at night and you didn’t expect Bakugou to be home this early since he usually came home around one in the morning. He came home early… but he didn’t tell you.
But it was fine, it’s fine!
He was just too tired, but surely now that you were home he’d talk to you, maybe you’d even get a hug.
Bakugou was in the living room watching a stupid game show while eating some leftovers from a week ago. You dropped your bag and put on a fake smile, walking behind Bakugou. When you wrapped your arms around him he flinched and he tore himself from your hold in an instant, dropping his food on the floor.
“Shit, look what you made me do.” He grunted and kicked the plate.
“Bakugou… it wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t move away when I hugged you.” You gave him a soft smile, reaching out to touch his arm.
He slapped your hand away and you backed away in confusion and fear. “God, you shitty woman— can’t you take a fucking hint?”
Bakugou scoffed at your confused face.
“How fucking delusional are you? I’ve been avoiding you for so long, trying to let you down easy! But you just can't let go of the past!”
“Ha..what do you mean…?” You let out a shaky breath, fearing the worst.
Don’t say it.
Please don’t say it.
“You really are dense.”
“I don’t love you, I thought that much was obvious.” His voice was strangely calm.
It hurt, everything hurt. But it felt right when he finally said it. Not just to him, but to you too. A wave of relief washed over Bakugou and he sighed, picking up the leftovers on the floor. You wanted to cry, but you couldn’t. After such a long time of being neglected, so many lonely and tear filled nights, you had no more tears left to shed.
“I’ll leave tomorrow then.”
Bakugou nodded and left for the bedroom without saying a word.
