Forget Me (Navy Blue Part 2)

A/N: I had a request a little while ago to do Phil’s response to a letter Dan wrote from my fic Navy Blue, so here it is! Enjoy!! also feedback is always appreciated if you’re feeling super nice

Dear Dan,

Here, in her house, I feel the least at home than I have anywhere. I feel sick all the time, the guilt is really getting to me. But I think that’s what I deserve, because after all, I did what I did. Even though I regret everything that happened, I know that you wouldn’t take me back; that you shouldn’t take me back. You were the best thing that had ever happened to me, and I threw you away.

Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, and I’m still half asleep, I forget everything that has happened. For a split second, I think that I’m still with you, in our Manchester flat, holding you and not her. I think that I can smell your shampoo, or that I can see your black and white duvet. But then I realize that I’m not in our flat, and I’m not holding you, I’m holding her, and I let go quickly and hope she doesn’t wake up. Holding her is impossible because the only person I want in my arms is you.

Dan, you’re the one who should be forgetting me. Take everything that reminds you of me and throw it away. I don’t want to make it harder for you than I already have. I wish I had something that could wipe your memory clean of me, you would be so much better off. I wish I could wipe her memory clean, too. Everyone’s lives would be better without me in them.

Daniel James Howell, I love you too. And I know I’ve said this a thousand times but I am so sorry for everything. I’ve never loved her, even though I thought and said I did. She’s not you. I miss your eyes, and your laugh, and everything. I miss your everything, Dan. You are the only person in this world that I utterly and completely love, and that will never change.

Despite this, I want you to move on. I want you to erase me from your life. Find someone else, fall in love with them. Start a family. I know that was something you always wanted. But make sure it’s someone who deserves you and all the love I know you have to offer. And when you do find them, take all the love you used to have for me and give it to them. I don’t deserve any part of you or your life.

I was lucky to have you, even if it was only for a few years. I wish that I could have had you my whole life, but unfortunately I fucked that up. I saw us growing old together, and I know you did too. I really wish it could have happened. I really, really wish.

After you read this, throw it away. Burn it. Erase it. Erase me.
