So continuing on the theme of my last question (the one about A town and the slug eating scene from AniTV), do you think A-Town has their own shitty crossover merchandise like the Animorphs Transformers, that somehow manages to be an embarrassment to both franchises?

[For those of you just tuning in: A-Town is the shitty postwar sitcom inspired by the life of Jake Berenson, to the eternal annoyance of Jake Berenson.]

Oh man, I know nothing about toy marketing, but I can speculate:

It's not really a kids' show, so there wouldn't be a lot of children's toys like with Animorphs. But I could see Spencer's Gifts stocking "talking dog" models of Mopsy that make rude jokes and fake-pee on the floor.

There would be a cheap under-coded video game; most levels would be puzzles that hinge on your ability to sneak past adults. You'd have a variety of morphs that you'd have to use some kind of continuous key-smash to deploy, meaning they're really hard to keep up for any length of time. Controller NPCs will kill you if they spot you morphing, civilian NPCs will put you in detention or jail if they spot you out of morph, and they're all coded to appear exactly the same on the surface. That means that the game's strategy is almost entirely about hiding and deception, which gamers complain about but Marco openly loves.

Pop figures. So many Funkos, so little money. Trina. Trina-in-lion-morph. Trina-and-J.J. Trina-and-Liam. Trina's new haircut. Trina's old haircut. Trina-in-pigeon-morph. And that's just Trina; wait'll you see Crystal.

Daisy/Zeptron is the obvious one to make into a Barbie, as the show's resident blond bombshell who wears lots of frilly pink dresses. But there'd be ridiculous controversy over how to market the Barbie: the character that Ash Lewis plays 99.99% of the time is Zeptron 420, but the body is named Daisy, so which name is less confusing? Eventually it just gets released as "Sitcom Barbie," with Ash Lewis's face and tiny replicas of Zeptron's favorite outfit.

Please note that the minifigs of "Gina's True Form" available online are not considered show canon, and are purely the product of fan speculation.

so i’m reading Visser for the first time and as much as i love the original series, i have to say this shit floored me. this book was a trip. i can’t believe i never read it sooner. like how immersed you get into the yeerk logic--like shit i want a whole series written about a yeerk.

I kinda like the AUs where Elfangor stayed on Earth and so the kids either never get the morphing powers, get them much later after everything has gone to hell, or get them from a completely different Andalite. Then they have Parental Elfangor angst because he thinks his so is either dead or a Controller because they didn't tell him. I dunno why I just do.

"what if" scenarios can be highly interesting. To see what would happen if just one little thing was changed.

In some of the Star Wars comics years ago they had a series looking if some things were slightly different (the one I can remember the most clearly is Leia training to be a Jedi with Yoda instead of Luke).

In the fourth season of Fringe they looked at what would be different if Peter Bishop didn't exist.

So what if Elfangor survived? That's a very interesting question and it's not surprising that people think about it :)

Loved Animorphs #9 too

K.A. Applegate, The Secret (Animorphs #9) 5/5 "Another great blend of series elements" I liked how this one had some variety in both mission and result. I think their small uses of morphing, in this case protecting the skunks, help keep them grounded. I don't know why Jake makes such a big deal out of it. He seems to express his feelings for Cassie by worrying about her. He also does this to the other Animorphs, maybe in part to seem fair about the Cassie focus. Ax pointedly refused to translate 'dapsen'. It seemed a bit odd to not cuss in a war story, but that could be part of making these books somewhat child-appropriate. Admittedly, since profanity is often based on religion or body functions, it could be particularly hard to translate, at least literally. The naming felt like my sense of humor, so I can understand the Yeerk perspective there. I do appreciate insight into the mindset of villians. Also, from a strategic perspective, the name would be a signal to other Yeerks. The Yeerks *were* right to look for Andalites in the forest. This helps keep them from being menacing yet ineffective villains, a trope the series sometimes falls into elsewhere. The reference to Marco crashing Cassie's dad's truck means that this is after Megamorphs #1. I looked that up as being between #7 and #8, but it was nice to have the in-character reference. The comic relief ending where they pranked Visser Three was brilliant. Ax's comment about the need to keep smells out of spaceships helped keep the skunking from being more than just a joke or temporary incident.
