Wapping I, 2015, by Thom Gorst. Acrylic on canvas, 76 x 76cm. Shown by Anise Gallery, SE1, at Art16, Olympia.
Following yesterday's painting, here's another hyper-realistic depiction of decay. Gorst recently completed a PhD at the Glasgow School of Art, which examined the aesthetics of 'Post-industrial Maritime Dereliction'. Previously taking his subjects from real scenes of dereliction, his current practice takes imagined examples of it and abstracts them without context onto the canvas.
