how the camp fam celebrate New Years’ Eve

Brooklynn initially wanted to go out clubbing and partying, but everyone else kinda just wanted a nice quiet evening in with some party food and stuff

she set off to go clubbing with the promise she’d be back by 11pm to see the new year with the others

she lasted all of ten minutes on the drive there before she turned around and went into their house, crying and hugging the others, because she wanted to spend the evening with them and no one else. in her words, “i wanna be at your lame party and no one else’s!”

Ben and Kenji, and Yaz and Sammy both follow the “no kisses until midnight” thing. or rather, try to. Yaz and Sammy cave within the hour, and Ben and Kenji think they’ve won until Yaz catches them making out in secret in their bedroom

Ben and Kenji have no stamina for staying up late. they go to bed early (10pm latest), so staying up All The Way To 12am is a struggle

they need an hour long afternoon nap just to make it to midnight

at around 9pm, Ben and Kenji get tired and sneak off as if they’re about to make out or have sex in private, but actually they just fall asleep and have a nice nap

once the camp fam Realise, Brooklynn charges into their room with a megaphone and an air horn and goes “WAKE UP YOU LAZY FUCKS”

they have the typical party food (pizza + chips + crisps + drinks) with party bites. there is a lot of prawn toast. Darius also likes those fried macaroni cheese bites, and Brooklynn has loads of popcorn shrimp

they do charades. Yaz and Sammy are not allowed on the same team, after they win in five seconds flat, so Yaz goes with Ben and Sammy goes with Kenji. hilarity and yelling ensues

after charades, they do a round of trivia, herd mentality (they are FREAKISHLY good at that), and a game called tricky situations where they have to come up with silly answers to a scenario. Ben’s answers almost always involve arson and/or blowing stuff up

during the party games and movie, Yaz sits on Sammy’s lap the entire time (same for Kenji on Ben’s lap)

they do a bit of dancing but tbh it’s half eleven by then and they’re all somehow tired

Brooklynn: omg we’re so old

*silence as they all realise what she just said*

*camp fam jump into a group hug

Brooklynn: WE’RE OLD!!!

Darius: WE MADE IT!!

Kenji: WE LIVED!!!!

and then they cry a little

Brooklynn spends half an hour trying to get literally any live footage of any big clock bonging twelve times. or fireworks. she’ll do anything. they’re in a ranch/farm in Texas in buttfuck nowhere, they have NO fireworks

at midnight, Yaz and Sammy passionately mouth kiss for the first twenty seconds of the new year. they get extremely into it, and do it until they run out of breath

obviously they all cry more after the new year because they genuinely did not think they would make it this far on several occasions. but they made it

Brooklynn starts singing Auld Lang Syne (traditional new year song in Scotland that’s sung in all of the uk lol) and the others look at her like What The Fuck Are You On, so the first half an hour of the new year is spent teaching the camp fam Auld Lang Syne

Darius has a tradition of, on the first night of the New Year, writing a letter to his dad telling him about the past year and what he hopes to do for the new year. so he stays up until about 1am telling him all about his amazing family and how much he loves them, and then goes to sleep

Benji shippers (me included) seem to forget that Kenji is a very caring character, who doesn’t admit it, but he’d die for his friends. He’d protect them all if he could, and he can’t live without them. Not being able to be there for them in crucial times makes him feel anxious. Showed especially in s2 when he was doing a lot of daredevil stuff.

The reason we think he’s doing it (in both cc & ct) out of deeper love for Ben/Brooklynn is because the writers like to particularly put the B characters into near-death scenes.

(Ben ‘dying’ at the monorail, Brooklynn getting kidnapped by Wu, bumpy getting chipped by DK, Ben almost dying when trying to free bumpy, Brooklynn being ‘dead’ and undercover in ct, Bumpy teased to be dying in ct s1, Ben getting electrocuted in ct s1, Bumpy being taken by Biosyn, Brooklynn almost dying in 4x05 … there’s probably more.)

Sure, the others have gotten hurt too, but it never lasted more than one episode, ie Sammy’s injury. Yaz went to get the injury cause she’s the fastest and obviously Yasammy ship building; but if Yaz couldn’t have, kenji would have for sure gone instead. (Okay, Yaz was disabled throughout many episodes, though the writers never teased her to be dying or in need of urgent help. Also there was a whole episode of Kenji helping disabled Yaz.)

Making it look like Benji & Kenlynn in a love corner thing at that point, cause kenji always cares the most about rescuing them. But he’d for sure do the same if the other characters were in that near-death situation.

This is hinted in the episode in Senegal when they ‘left’ Yaz alone at night, and Kenji then hugs her first once she’s safe with them.

Like if Darius got stung in s4 instead, we might’ve not gotten a similar heartfelt conversation in the hyperloop simply because they are already close and talk a lot, and Darius doesn’t have the same uncertainties as Ben, but he’d for sure have done the elevator scene to save Darius. If Brooklynn got stung instead, there would be no necessity for Kenji to be with her, cause I’m sure anyone is able to carry Brooklynn; Kenji however is the second strongest physically, so it was sorta necessary for him to stay with Ben.

He also proposed to go alone to the chicken farm, just so Zayna (and the others) won’t be harmed. And we can all agree on that that was not out of potential romance.

The only reason why he didn’t go after Brooklynn to Malta, apart from not completely trusting her, is cause he got at his limit. Which he told Darius earlier in the car ride. Then why would he have played the hero for Ben in s4? Because he was there when it happened. For Brooklynn, he’d needed to travel to Malta and then hope first that she wants to be rescued; there was no certainty, the whole rescue mission could’ve gone totally wrong/been useless. But Ben did need rescuing, needed to quickly get medical help, out of the dinosaur forest, and was very close to death. Big difference.

I’m not saying that romantic feelings can’t develop when someone plays a hero for another person all the time because that one person just loves being tortured like that by the writers. So, yeah, sure, Kenji (and Ben too) might have totally fallen in love during all that heroism action scenes.

But we do gotta keep in mind Kenji’s character and how much he’s gone through in CT especially. He wouldn’t have been able to take another death (as he said in s1 when Bumpy was ‘dying’), so it was moreso him making sure he doesn’t get another scar on his heart for losing a loved one, and not the fact that it was Ben injured in particular.

okay i know i promised "this ask will def be the last benji ask!!!" about three asks ago lmao, BUT. consider this. Ben confessing to Kenji that he broke up with Gia a few months or so after chaos theory. they're on a walk around Sammy's ranch, sitting on the hilltop, where they've been staying. they share a room, because Sammy's ranch has three bedrooms, yasammy are sharing, and Darius and Brooklynn are sharing, and it just made logical sense. they're on a picnic by sunset, and they brought a few cheap beers. Kenji tells him to talk about the breakup, and Ben says he's pretty sad, but he sort of felt it was coming since they'd been growing distant since Ben left for Malta. they talk and drink and the world grows fuzzy and warm and soft. Kenji can't stop looking at the way Ben looks, lit perfectly by the sunlight, and that smile he gets when he talks about something he likes, and the way his eyes light up when he's excited, and Kenji is kissing him before either of them can process what happens. it's warm and sweet and comfortable and everything Kenji never knew he needed until now, and Ben pulls away, a million and one emotions on his face. Kenji, rambling apologies and excuses, runs. he sleeps on the couch that night, and the camp fam (minus Ben) don't know why. Kenji won't tell them
