Callen arrived home with a bottle of unopened wine, a baggie with cubed cheese, a sleeve of crackers, a tin of cookies – thrown together by Sam, who doesn’t like "gooey fruit" in his holiday cookies so Callen got more than his fair share. There was also Deeks's ball of lights.

The party wound up with some happy holiday endings. Sam was taking Michelle to "Hamilton", Aiden to Annapolis and Kam anywhere she wanted to go. Kensi and Deeks decided to go down to Camp Pendleton to visit some of her friends. They found a last minute Airbnb near the beach and were so ready to go. Eric and Nell had plans every single day – ice skating, movies, Disneyland, the Rose Bowl parade – their dream staycation. Hetty was flying to Japan to bring in the New Year a day before they all would. It was a perfectly Hetty move.

There was the worry about his father, who wanted a nice home cooked meal. Callen had the home but nothing to cook and nothing to cook it with or in or on or whatever. He mentioned that to Anna, hoping she could at least lend him some pans or something. She pulled out her phone and four minutes later they had December 28th at 8PM reservations at The Musso & Frank Grill. Arkady was a fan of the veal schnitzel. Anna liked the chicken parmigiana. A passing Hetty recommended the grenadine of beef with the bearnaise sauce. She also liked the creamed spinach. Surely his father could find something on the menu. And their worst dish – not that they had any bad dishes – would be better than any home cooked meal Callen could make.

It had been a weird year. He found his father, found he had a half-sister and a nephew. Things were getting a little more friendly with Anna again. But the team was under fire. Hetty making deals to keep them intact for a while but how long that while would be was up in the air. Sam nearly lost Aiden, they all nearly lost Kensi. Every good thing he had in that year turned into something more dire.

But it was Christmas and dire was not on agenda. Instead, he found an old copy "A Christmas Carol" at a used book store. The cover was gone but all the other pages were there. Maybe the best dollar he spent in weeks. He also figured he'd at least unravel Deeks's ball of lights. Not going to hang anything this year but maybe in 2017 would be festive and bright.

The wine was in one of the kitchen cabinets with the cookie tin and cracker sleeve, the cheese in the fridge. "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night," Callen said as he made his way to the shower.
