I love when a character's flaws, coping mechanisms, negative and positive past experiences, trauma, past mistakes, personality, mental disabilities, mental illness, whatever the fuck else, etc. end up causing them to act in a way that isn't necessarily logical. It doesn't align with their morals. It doesn't help them get what they want. It makes things worse for them, actually, and they HATE IT. But they were never taught how to properly cope in a healthy way, and they genuinely do not know how to act any other way, and no one teaches them, so they are just stuck like this.
You watch horror and don’t flinch. Character deaths don’t faze you. You’ve never cried at a show.
Then ONE anime says “not today” and suddenly you’re sobbing at 3 AM questioning your entire life.
The anime that broke me even though I thought I was immune:
Attack on Titan - That Erwin/Armin choice. If you know you KNOW.
Your Lie in April - The ending. I wasn’t ready. Nobody’s ever ready.
Anohana - “We found you Menma” still destroys me years later.
Clannad After Story - Episode 18. Don’t even talk to me about it.
Violet Evergarden - Episode 10 with the letters. Ugly cried for 20 minutes straight.
Assassination Classroom - The graduation scene broke something in me I can’t fix.
Angel Beats - That ending hit different and I’m still not okay.
A Silent Voice - The bridge scene. The BRIDGE SCENE.
I went from “I don’t cry at fiction” to “lying on the floor emotionally destroyed” real quick.
What’s the anime that absolutely wrecked you when you weren’t expecting it?
Tell me I’m not suffering alone here 😭
