Do you even realize that many people play IFs because they want be more than an average person? Or at least forget for a moment about being 'normal human with normal skills'?
That's the charm of these types of games, but and there are more and more of IFs that force you into the role of an average human and as if that wasn't annoying enough, surround you with nonhuman amazing powerful ROs
I've seen this hundreds of times already and I fucking hate that trend:
IF set in a world of flying creatures - MC is the only one who doesn't have wings IF about fairies or elves - MC is a human and everyone despises them
IF about people with superpowers - MC the only one who doesn't have them
IF where MC is a slave, IF where MC is a war prize for some fucking royal, IF where MC is a human servant of the gods, IF where MC is a pathetic lover of a rock star, IF where MC is a god but so weak that became prisoner of humans (!!!)....
... Should I go on?
Games (those still ongoing) where we can play someone really powerful who should be respected (or feared) I can count on the fingers of one hand.
Some writer said that OP and / or Chosen One trope is overrepresented and in their story the main character will not be like that. Bullshit. MCs who are weak, helpless damsels in distress or doormats that everyone hates are overrepresented.
Someone should say it out loud.
So I’ve been sitting on this for a couple of hours. I’m gonna respond to something like this only once. Other asks like that will be deleted or blocked. Okay here we go *ahem*
Seriously? I’m all for honest feedback and I know not everyone will like my story but wow, go touch some grass or something.
Look, I get it. You want to play as some badass character who can stomp everyone else. Cool I like those tropes too. But attacking my work before it’s even written? That's just ridiculous. You have NO IDEA where my story is going. None. Zero.
Writing and sharing creative work takes guts. It's easy to sit there and trash other people's hard work, but have you tried making your own IF? If you hate these tropes so much, why not create the game YOU want to play instead of dumping on others?
And for the record, I actually enjoy many of those games you're bashing. They're popular for a REASON. They create underdogs we can root for, I for one love complex morally grey characters who have to be clever instead of powerful, I love messy characters who have to deal with their own and other peoples sh*t, or stories about earning respect instead of already having it. Different stories work for different reasons and people.
If you're only interested in playing as some feared, all-powerful character, then yeah, my story probably isn't for you. And that's fine! Just move on instead of trying to make creators feel bad about their choices. When you've actually READ my whole work, then maybe we can talk and I’m always open for productive criticism. Until then, this comment is just wasted energy.
Sorry not sorry.✌🏻
And for everyone else enjoy a little snippet of MC being ‘weak’ and a ‘doormat’ under the cut
