He and Pipit had never been what anyone in their right mind would call ‘close’, but still, he had not expected a reaction like that. He blinked slowly in surprise, taking a moment to wonder what, exactly, he had done to earn Pipit’s ire so quickly. He had only been teasing him, gently at worst -- he had done far worse to the patrolman before, after all. So... What the FUCK was his PROBLEM??
Ginger brows settled heavy above his eyes, steadily furrowing amid his forehead as his curious expression melted into an unimpressed frown. His lips twitched, as if to become a snarl; but he paused, took a calming and even breath through his nose, and shifted from where he had leaned against the doorway. His arms unfolded from across his thick chest, and he stared down at the combative young man who had - apparently - decided he was the ENEMY.
“People were worried about you.” He all but snapped, pointing one gloved finger toward Pipit’s chest. “Don’t give me grief for trying to find out what the HELL you’ve been up to. Obviously, though, it was getting another stick lodged up your ass.”
The jab, of course, was childish, and perhaps unnecessary. It had just slipped out, is all. Though he had taken great strides toward controlling his temper, there were times when he couldn’t quite STOP himself. Facing down Pipit, ever and eternally reluctant to believe anything good about him, had always been one of those times. And this one, worse than usual. He honestly didn’t think he had DONE anything. He had spotted the freckled boy walking through he halls of the barracks, and simply wanted to make conversation -- to welcome him home, and see if he was okay. Sure, he’d had half a mind to show off his new, midnight blue tunic, but whatever half formed plan he’d had was gone now. All that remained was stinging insult, indignant irritation, and a quiet reminder to himself that he needed to breathe. He hadn’t come here to fight.
“The surface is a dangerous place.” He said, after a moment of pause spent breathing steadily through his nose. “When everyone started realizing this wasn’t some ROUTINE excursion, they sent everyone who could down there to try’n find you. Anyone already experienced.” Zelda. Link. HIM. There were those who had moved away from Skyloft to try and build this ‘Hyrule’ on the surface, but they three still had journeyed furthest beyond the borders of the town. He’d spend days flying in search of Pipit and his bird -- And had to stand, while Gaepora faced his mother, and admitted that they couldn’t find him.
“But sure. Yell at me. Does that make you feel BETTER, still?”
