Worst of 2019 TV Shows #3: Supergirl (CW)
It’s hard for anything nowadays to not give their opinion about how things are.
Case in point the superhero shows of tv.
The prime example this year was the arrowverse and the only show not situated on the main world known as supergirl.
The show decided to tackle a real world problem by invoking the immigration debate with an influx of aliens into National City and a staunch anti immigrant supporter rallying the people against those who just want to better their lives.
On top of undoing some of the progress made since season one by temporarily giving Alex an amnesia episode in making her forgetful who Supergirl really is, and shoving some of the major players into the side by giving focus to a rookie heroine and her romance with a supercomputer you wonder why they say this is getting too political for escapism.
The one saving grace that doesn’t make this higher in the list is the second best portrayal of Lex Luthor in history by Jon Cryer who redeemed himself from his own previous incursion in Superman IV.
And with the crisis looming we’ll need all their goodwill back.
Sum 22: A fan base is alienated by going in a more real world direction tripling down on the Arrowverses darker tone.
