Gaaah. Watching 8.18, when Victor trains Krissy and the other two teens to become perfect vampire hunters. Dean immediately says, “What the fuck? They’re children!!” Sam says, “So, what? We hunted as kids. Actually, it’s a pretty perfect step-up.”
And yet the episode before, he gets all emotional with Meg about deep-down-desires for a normal life. This is why I hate Sam.
The narrative makes him so wishy-washy. One episode he wants a life. The next he’s a hunter through and through. The next he’s begging Dean not to be so suicidal. The season finale he’s laying his life down because he doesn’t have a future. His story isn’t nuanced. It’s downright messy and less than half-baked. As a viewer it’s grating, especially since he’s constantly portrayed as the “right” brother, the stable one with morals, next to his “screw-up” brother, the sleazy one who drinks and hits on women 24/7.
