I posted this on twitter and fucked it up so I guess I’ll also post it here because I can and want to :)
This picture is so fucking crisp I literally can’t get myself to delete it because last time I did I wanted it back for something and it took me ages to find it so in my laptop clean up I will not be deleting lol
But it also pissed me off because they look sooooooo fucking good together and it just makes me hate bugvarchies all over again. Because from the first episode it was crystal clear that it was intended to be barchiejeronica from the get go but ofc you can’t just start them out at the get go, so they put bh and va together. Which would’ve actually been fine!
they were aesthetically pleasing at times and had potential in some aspects but it was obvious that they were only putting bhva together to keep bajv apart to build up to it. But because bhva, typically buggies, they threatened anyone who came near jughead or Betty and forced the writers to keep them together for seasons on end, which ended up keeping varchie together too. And because of it, the show couldn’t grow and honestly that’s why they fucked this show of being something good instead of something everyone makes fun of. Like, the camp is fun sometimes but there’s a line and they had to cross it to keep bhva together.
ANYWAYS it should have been bhva s1/1b but realizing that they were only using each other for their own personal problems.
So by s2, they’d start building up Jeronica and barchie—Betty would realize she only got with Jug bc she was hurt and afraid that Archie wouldn’t reciprocate her feelings and would ruin their friendship, Archie realizing he only got with Veronica bc he didn’t think he could be with Betty (also bc of his trauma from grundy) because she was too good for him
Jughead realizing he only got with Betty despite barely even being friends with her (heavily implied they’re friends by association bc of Archie before the show) bc he’s so desperate to feel love and affection and just be wanted instead of an outcast and he found it with someone who can fake it well and is avoiding her feelings so it was perfect. Though would only lead to heartbreak.
and Veronica realizing she wanted to be with Archie bc she feels like a bad person even though she’s not bc of her dad and how she acted in ny, and by being with riverdale’s beloved sunshine star, the goodness would rub off on her and in the end jughead and Veronica would end up with someone who ACTUALLY likes and appreciates them and is on their level and would support but also challenge each other in way they need to be challenged and supported, which they desperately wanted but never found in Betty and Archie respectively.
I will honestly never forgive bhva for ruining this great show with a great cast and soooo much potential all for a ship with no romantic chemistry (which I also do blame the writers for using Cole and lili’s irl relationship to influence characters dating but still it started with the crazy fans who don’t know any decorum or fandom etiquette) like fuck Riverdale would have been so iconic for all the right reasons instead of being seen as it is now.
*note: I know not all bughead’s or varchie’s are like the ones I am talking about, which means I am not talking about the normal ones who just kept to themselves and their corner of the fandom and could interact normally without throwing a bitch fit if anyone liked jughead or Betty with anyone other than each other. I always have to preface this lol bc I know the craziest just make the rest of the fandom look bad
