How can I transition (mtf) without hormones? I have the BCRA 1 gene mutation and my doctor wont prescribe HRT due to my massive risk of breast cancer. I'm kinda losing hope and need something.
That’s a difficult situation. There are ways you can transition without hormones, but nothing that would work like HRT. Laser hair removal can remove unwanted body and facial hair. A good skincare routine might soften the skin some. A doctor might be willing to prescribe anti-androgens, but not estradiol (this is usually unwise as it can cause loss of bone density over time). Cosmetic surgeries are numerous and pretty much instantly effective.
First though you should talk to your doctor about options. You might be able to go on HRT, stay on it, and have regular breast cancer screening like any other person with breasts and that gene, or have a preventative mastectomy once breast growth stops. I’ll attach links to two papers describing transition by trans women with BRCA1&2 that you might be able to show your doctor show your doctor.
Your situation is difficult, but far from hopeless.
