It’s scary to think that our health is mostly out of our control. Especially when health is put on such a high pedestal in our society.
Health is defined as ‘the state of being free from illness or injury’ and ‘a person's mental or physical condition’
Based on those definitions, I’d argue that not many people have no physical health issues, no injuries AND no mental health issues.
Health is extremely complex and so are the factors that affect our health.
If you do ‘all the right things’ and still get sick, it’s not your fault.
If you do none of the ‘right things’ and get sick, it’s still not your fault.
Am I saying that we should just forget about healthy habits? Of course not. They do reduce our risk of getting sick and they make us feel good! But it doesn’t guarantee that you won’t get sick and it doesn’t make you a better person because you prioritize your health - or aren’t sick.

Lately, everything is exhausting.
Is it because there is a global pandemic? That probably doesn’t help.
I have ulcerative colitis (my GI doctor originally thought I had Crohn’s) and one of the biggest change I’ve noticed is that my energy levels are much lower than they were before.
That makes my job as a trainer and instructor very interesting.
When I get asked how my workouts are going, I can’t help but feel a little bit of guilt and shame and even sadness. I love lifting weights but I haven’t been able to move much besides walking my dog.
The thing is, working out takes up most of my energy reserve for the day and I barely have enough to be a functional human being for most of it.
I baked some cookies the other day before work and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to survive my work day.
I am currently working on finding that balance in my life. I still want to move my body but that will look differently for me and that’s ok.
I didn’t write this post so that you pity me for my situation. I wrote it to raise awareness. Before you judge someone (or a trainer) for the amount of exercise they do or don’t do, remember that everyone’s situation is different. You don’t know if someone is working 12 hour days, has 3 kids at home, is struggling with mental health, has a chronic disease or a combination of all of that.
The #noexcuses rhetoric is damaging. Let’s encourage people to practice self-care in ways that work for them. Not what society expects that self-care to look like.
And if you’re dealing with low energy due to chronic illness, mental health or other. You’re not alone 💛 you are doing enough, even if our capitalist society tells you otherwise.
There is no such thing as ‘natural foods’ or ‘natural ingredients’
The ‘natural’ banana you’re eating, the air you’re breathing, the phone you’re holding... everything is made up of chemicals. YOU are made up of chemicals
For a person in recovery from an eating disorder, restriction/dieting is like a drug. It is not something that can be dabbled in. Last week I shared a post about a platform promoting a diet, whilst they themselves shared their own ED Recovery. I don’t think Pursuing weight loss is ever an answer let alone in ED recovery. The message I want to to convey here, eating disorders have similarities to addiction. With addictions we avoid the trigger. This is not possible for a person with an eating disorder- avoiding food contributes to the issue. (Additionally food addiction is not a thing- despite what diet culture tells us). Dieting, restriction these are avoidable. These are addictive. If we are working on the re-wiring process of our brains then ultimately this will no longer be something you are drawn to. The emphasis should be on unlearning fat phobia, bias and learning body neutrality. Dieting is not congruent with this. Just like someone in substance addiction recovery you cannot safely engage in dieting. It is not worth it. #eatingdisorderecovery #eatingdisorderrecovery #bodyneutrality #antidiet #antidietrevolution #ditchdietculture #antidietproject #healthateverysizemovement #anorexiafighter #anorexiarecoverycommunity #hypothalamicamenorrhea #hypothalamicamenorrhearecovery #orthorexia #orthorexiarecovery #atypicalanorexiarecovery #atypicalanorexiaawareness #bulimiarecovery #bingeeatingrecovery #osfedrecovery #fuckeatingdisorders #edrecoverywarrior https://www.instagram.com/p/CRKwXThpVge/?utm_medium=tumblr
Celebrities such as Iggy Azalea, Paris Hilton, Dionne Warwick, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and much more have stepped up to voice their support for #freebritney. Thanks to Britney fans, this is a a relentless campaign that has been ongoing for close to a decade and hit mainstream media recently. We already know dieting causes bad mental health, looks like her dad was complicit in her instability then blaming her for “failing”. I just heard myself saying “I’ll just have 1 biscuit” Realistically, who really ever wants 1 biscuit?? My brain then shifted to, I could have xyz to fill me up. So I blocked that, and had a few biscuits until I felt satisfied. Craving fulfilled, hunger satiated. ED voice 0 healthy voice 1. Filling ourselves up on foods we are not craving is restriction. It’s common and it is disordered. Not allowing ourselves to have as much as we want of a food type is restriction. If you want the biscuit and not the rice cakes, or fruit then allow yourself the biscuits. Not allowing yourself all foods makes bingeing more likely. No food is good or bad despite what diet culture or your ED voice leads you to believe. #equity4eatingdisorders #nodiet, #antidietculture #antidietrevolution #fuckdietculture #anorexianervosarecovery #anorexiafighter #anorexiasucks #fuckanorexia, #edrecoverywarrior #edrecovery #orthorexia #orthorexianervosa #orthorexiarecovery #hypothalamicamenorrhea #hypothalamicamenorrhearecovery #bulimiafighter #bulimiarecovery #haes, #ditchdiets https://www.instagram.com/p/CPWo4Z-pUvc/?utm_medium=tumblr
