The weight loss messages, the weight loss ads, the new diets, the new challenges, they’re more prominent than ever.
It’s disheartening to see how the little progress we have made with accepting our bodies and accepting bodies of all shapes and sizes has turned around. Sk!nnytok is getting bigger and bigger. Your favourite body positive influencers are now on weight loss journeys (I am not blaming or shaming them).
With the political landscape right now, it’s clear that this trend backwards is a way to keep us occupied and too weak to notice the atrocities they are scheming. When you’re hungry, when you’re constantly thinking about exercise, when you’re too focused on how your body looks, you don’t have the energy and the mental capacity to fight the systems put in place to oppress us.
When you see diet culture messages promoting weight loss and new diets, keep this in mind.
It doesn’t mean that we can’t move our bodies or eat nutrient dense foods. On the contrary, we need to be fed and have energy to fight. It’s all about eating and moving in a way that benefits us, instead of it consuming our life, our energy, our time, and our wellbeing.
I know I haven’t posted in a while because I’m focused on University. But I keep seeing loved ones and strangers try new diets and attempt to lose weight, and while I am not trying to shame them, I felt the urge to share this message.
Fed, and united, we can make a difference 🩷
