Sorry long ask, but I know how you feel about Laurel on Arrow, but I was wondering did you always dislike Ol!city? While they did get annoying and ultimately was why I stopped watching them in seasons 1&2 reminded me of Biosepcialist pre Hydra reveal. Also do you have any thoughts on evil Laurel cause ive almost started watching again just for her lol

Oh I always hated them together. First, before anything happened, because the triangle was annoying and bad for all the characters involved as well as for the show. Largely because the show willingly played into the shipwars, which resulted in some pretty shitty treatment/erasure of Laurel on screen. (But really that’s what Arrow is all about, isn’t it? Erasing Laurel Lance.)

But more than that, I was a Smallville fan, so I’m one of those people who had just a few years earlier lived through Dinah getting sidelined for the quirky, fan favorite, can-do-no-wrong character. Having it happen again was like a slap in the face, especially since I came to this show first and foremost for Black Canary and secondarily for this ship that I was not alone in wanting to see finally done right. 

So in all honesty there was literally no way I could have shipped it given that history, even if the show had handled it well.

As for e2 Laurel, I’ll admit I like what I’ve seen of her, but not enough that I’d do anything aside from vicariously look at gifsets and clips focused on her. Part of that is due to the ol!city issue and that it just ruins the show completely for me and part of it is due to e2 Laurel’s unfortunate role as yet another means of erasing the original Laurel’s character. I mean, she’s literally living her life, pretending to be her. Which makes sense given the circumstances, but after Felicity got Oliver and Dinah got the freaking cry and Sara got to be the Canary first and got to have Sin and got to be the cool one everyone (most obviously the showrunners) loved for it, having this other Laurel show up and take her life ... honestly what’s even left at this point?

So yeah, she’s cool and it’s fun seeing Katie play evil again, I’ll admit that, and if she’s enough to redeem the show for you, I do sincerely hope you enjoy it. But for me, there’s just no getting around how horribly Arrow treated the character I came to it for.

Is anyone else puzzled?!

Last episode of Arrow, Felicity gave Oliver an advice to keep a secret and tell half truth to his son, to protect him, but similar thing was exactly the reason why she left Oliver two years ago- he kept a secret from her to protect his son and have a chance to be a father. I was left speechless honestly after that scene. Why can't the writers write consistent characters. Or does this mean that she actually realized Oliver did the right thing back then and she walked out on him unreasonably. Just to clarify - I am not saying Felicity was wrong in the both situations, people are different and they have right to accept moral grounds differently. She has the right to think that truth and inclusion is important in a family. I am saying she was inconsistent in her believes. Why truth and inclusion is not important for William. Why is it ok for Oliver to go on a mission that can endanger his life and not tell William to be prepared and that he is actually braking his promise to him. It was not ok when Oliver sent William away to protect him without asking her or that he kept him a secret because of the promise he gave to his mother. it felt quite unfair for Oliver to be put through all the heart break over a moral issue that she changes based on the situation or based on who is on the other side of the lie or secret. I am not saying that Oliver was wrong too, he made a choice because being a parent is always more important than anything. Either way I just feel cheated with this relationship over and over again because nothing makes sense with those two, and there is this constant drama and inconsistency and I don't know which side to be on or what to believe anymore. When they were at odds I have to rationalize it - why are they at odds, and even that made no sense, not to say that them getting back together was without any development or a story or a character progression to make sense. It's just they are either together or not and that's it, nothing realistic to support their choices. End of rant ;)

Felicity - the Hero vs 0licity

I don’t understand why Felicity fans are more concerned about a relationship, that does not bring anything to her and everybody forgets, that she was the hero. She saved the world, if it wasn’t for her the whole world would have been nuked. But no body remembers that on Arrow. No body acknowledges that and her fans are not even bothered. All they care about is, if the male hero saves her and looks at her with longing eyes. Other characters are calling her dark and criticising her, they never gave her depthness with her new relationship with the cute policeman, they made her destroy other women’s careers and none of her fans seemed bothered by these story lines. She is going backwards instead of forward, but people are more interested when 0licity will make babies. 

Let me tell you something - a female hero is not there just to propagate and play family with some hot guy. If they forget that she is a real hero, but her childish relationship with someone, who she left in the first place, is more important, than there is something really wrong with how people think. We will never have a powerful and true representation when female characters are just there to serve some ships and love interests.

Felicity Smoak was the nerdy girl, she represented this unique part of the people, who are more introvert, more obsessed with bigger goals and their work is their lives. These people do not think about relationships, they are content being alone and what drives them is the bigger goals.(other examples are Bones and mr Robot). They are attracted to hot people only as infatuation and fantasy, but finding the perfect match is not what makes them happy. 

Felicity does not represent these people any more. They made her the stereotypical love interest that dates superheroes and has a type. They dressed her in over sexualized clothes, which an introvert and socially awkward person will never do.  Pushing her with the hot playboy male hero changed her as a character and is cliche and  rip off from boring teenage movies like DUFF.

I am really not interested in story lines about how she finds her way back to the main male lead. They never made it clear why she loved him in the first place. She was inspired by his heroism, but seeing her heroism is what I am interested in. Stories like Pandora and Helix is what they should have write about her from the start and leave her free from the drama romance. A relationship based on unconditional partnership, understanding, trust and mutual goal is so much more empowering and interesting to watch than what they made 0licity to be from season 3 .

This is bigger than Arrow itself, Laurel was/IS the best character this show has ever had. She was a badass woman who wasn’t afraid of being angry and show that to the world, she went through a lot and still had a beautiful and amazing soul. Anyway, Katie Cassidy still gets a lot of hateful tweets, and I feel like sometimes we don’t show her how amazing she plays AND LOVE this character.
