Currently reading through all the The Eye comics (a series about a giant, floating, flaming eye who goes around stopping crime) - they really did get away with just calling their Italian mob boss character “Spigetti”

The idea of The Eye is funny because there's an unrelated UK comic called "Evil Eye" about a giant floating eyeball who brainwashes people into doing evil deeds.

This 1848 review of Wuthering Heights reveals two things that at first might seem contradictory but aren’t actually:

1) The initial reviewers who thought Ellis Bell was a man didn’t read the novel as primarily a love story. They read it as primarily a violent family saga.

2) They absolutely read Heathcliff and Catherine’s relationship as romantic on both sides:

“Catherine the elder—wayward, impatient, impulsive—sacrifices herself and her lover to the pitiful ambition of becoming the wife of a gentleman of station.”

I really care about these initial reviews because they read the novel as it is: They don’t suffer from over-analysis, gendered prejudice or adaptation poisoning.

trip and t'pol's relationship was unhinged actually. wdym they spent a year feeling each other up every night all because trip had insomnia. wdym they met their lovechild from an alternate future and he inherited his mom's ears and his dad's penchant for melodrama. wdym they banged and t'pol played it off as "an experiment" but they accidentally bonded so hard they became mates and started appearing in each other's daydreams. wdym trip's clone spilled the beans about trip's feelings to t'pol and admitted she was all he could think about. wdym trip was t'pol's only guest when she went home for her sham forced marriage and their love was so obvious that t'pol's mother spotted it instantly. wdym their love was so renowned that a xenophobic hate group used their DNA to create a secret love child in order to prove to humanity that interspecies relationships were wrong. WILD

If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.
