Alan, who had been fighting off the blush that had virtually burned his face with the intensity of his mortification, suddenly perked up.
"Oh...oh no-" Barry wagged his finger against the air, eyes widening as he watched Alan grin.
"I got asked, Bar," he replied with a nonchalant shrug and a deviously sly grin.
"Doesn’t mean you gotta answer, Al!" His voice wavered.
"But, I'm compelled to!" He cried. "When Barry and I were kids, he had a crush on this girl in our block: Susie Langford-" Barry let out an exasperated cry of disapproval. "- she was your typical little girl. Blonde hair, pigtails, pink frilly dress, the whole nine yards. Trouble is, she also had the typical girl mindset of: Eww, boys are gross!~ Aaaaand she broke Barry's heart..."
Barry groaned. "You can stop there, y'know, Al! We don't have to go through all of this!"
"Why not? We're just getting started!" Alan continued snarkily. "So, that's pretty much our theme here. Barry would find a girl, like her, then she'd reject him and break his heart. Managers never get the girls, Al. It's always the artists!"
"Am I wrong?!" Barry insisted furiously. "You got hoardes of fangirls practically throwing themselves at you! I am the drummer of this band while you're the lead singer gettin' all the action!"
Alan made a sceptical face. "I think we've already established I'm not really getting any action, haven't we?"
"Oh, you know what I mean!" Barry whined in objection, waving his wrists.
Alan chuckled, then considered. "You know what you need, Bar? Some girl who is absolutely head over heels for you...someone who just wants to live with you and cook for you and make you happy, y'know?"
Barry's expression softened a touch, then he grew playful again. "Think you can write me somebody like that?"
Alan laughed, looking at his shoes. "Maybe I'll give it a try, okay?"
