AoT Ch. 73 Thoughts
This chapter was the biggest adrenaline rush I've had in a while. For chapters upon chapters, the plot has been building in intensity, and I was hoping this would be the release. Or at least the beginning of the release.
Well, I was wrong.
I kind of feel like strangling Isayama right now over that massive cliffhanger. I started reading the manga right after chapter 67 came out, so I don't have any such previous cliffhangers to compare this to, but man. That was gnarly. Needless to say, October's issue can't come soon enough.
Regardless, onto my thoughts and highlights:
"But then one boy had a small blade he held in his heart..."
I can't help it. I loved the poetic recap at the opening, even though it took up precious page space. Eren is my darling little hero, and I love how this chapter once again reminded us that though he has his faults, like we all do, he has a true heart, and he will keep on, despite the major shit storm heading his way.
"Some screamed pride, some screamed hope, some screamed rage... but they all screamed alike."
Another great quote, showcasing the wonderful strengths of our three beloved protagonists. Mikasa with her amazing ability to keep her head up despite suffering one of the worst tragedies in the series. Armin with the spark in his eyes that inspired Eren and through him an entire generation to keep fighting. And of course, Eren, everyone's favorite personification of teenage angst, with his motivational (?) fiery rage. And yet they are all the same, each one of them special, along with all their fellow Survey Corps members. I myself hope I could be that singular if the time ever came.
Finally, I love the vulnerabilty Eren once again displays in this chapter. It really deepens his character and also reveals his growing maturity. He understood he had to conserve his energy for the operation and accepted Mikasa's help with his horse without a fuss. He looked shockingly terrified for once, and though he did not initially admit to being afraid, he later thanked Armin for once again giving him courage by reminding him what he was fighting for. It seems to me Armin is almost invariably the one who gets Eren back on his feet when he is feeling low. And lastly, the look on Eren's face on page 37, when he sees his decimated hometown for the first time in over five years... I don't think I've ever seen him look that despondent before, but I appreciate it. It tells me he is ready to weather the hard times ahead and reclaim what he lost, no matter what.
So, there are my thoughts. There aren't many this time around, mostly because I'm still a little ticked about it leaving off where it did, but I suppose it's only to be expected. Isayama needs to drawt this thing out for as long as he can, and as long as it doesn't turn into the next Naruto or Bleach, I'm good. I'm enjoying sitting on the edge of my seat for an entire month. Really, I am.
SNK 73 on MangaTraders.org
I noticed that most people are still waiting for SNK ch. 73 to come out translated in English on Crunchyroll, but I just use mangatraders.org to read new snk chapters when they’re released. Snk 73 has been out on it since yesterday, and I already read it. It’s a safe website (I’ve only used it on mobile, so I’m not entirely sure how it is on computers and such), the site doesn’t crash, it loads very fast, and I have no troubles with it whatsoever. It also shows the pages in scroll-mode, so you don’t have to wait for the next page to load, and it updates very quickly. It's also free, and I highly recommend it.
