I did manage to get some sleep though I’ll almost certainly nap later on. Rewatching aou was a good exercise and also a lot of fun. The Bruce/Nat remained painful from my POV because I clearly missed the movie where Nat, a person who is canonically slow to trust, starts trusting Bruce. The sterility as a thing that happened to Nat makes total sense as do her feelings that that was the final nail in the coffin or her humanity but I just wish that they had used a different take or added in a line which clarified the whole situation (“and it does make killing easier” for instance is a small change that puts Natasha’s feelings into her whole “I am a monster” diagnosis"). I loved her final scene with Steve. I deeply wish that the Twins had maintained their racial ID from the comics. They could still have chosen to work for neonazis but an acknowledgement that despite that despite that history what the Americans and Tony’s weapons had done was unforgivable enough to work with them would have been powerful and worked well with the plot. I was a little confused about how Tony went from destroying all of his suits to having an iron legion but I think it’s pretty clear that Tony was joking about setting him and Pepper up in a Clint style farm (the “hope it doesn’t get blown up line”). I thought RDJ’s acting re:Vision was absolutely amazing. I actually think that most of my problems with aou could simply have been solved by them releasing a tie in comic which covers the year that the team comes together in.
Edited to add: I'm not saying that sterility=lack of humanity but I am saying that as someone who was very afraid that I might be sterile for a little over a year that it was very upsetting to think that I might have lost that. If it had been taken from me by people it would have been even worse especially if I thought they were rationally right to do it.

"That is an interesting little trick you can do, getting inside people's minds. Playing off their deepest fears. I wonder if you can manipulate other thoughts and emotions while you are in there." Loki said looking at the 'enhanced' mortal before him. Pretending to be Odin had given him many resources with which to keep an eye on Thor and his friends on Midgard. Seeing this girl's power Loki could not resist getting a closer inspection of it and her.
Only Tumblr would go out of their way to hate a movie just because of imagined racism and personal vendettas against its director.
Age of Ultron Mini-Review
Age of Ultron is one of those films that not only rivals but, in some ways, surpasses its predecessor. It has a few small faults, but none greatly damage the overall experience, leaving a quite fantastic film that’s a great ending to this latest chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
(Minor Spoilers follow)
One of the best things about this movie and its most major improvement since the last one is how well the characters are balanced out. We all know how Hawkeye famously got the shaft in the first Avengers, but not only did he come full swing here with some great character moments, but the big five also all got their times to shine in addition to the four new players this movie brings in. That’s ten full characters (One of which doesn't even show up until the last third) and nearly all of them get equal screen presence and each make a great impact and are likable. I don’t know how they did it, but it was spectacular to witness.
The plot was also a step up from the first Avengers. While the first film had a very simple plot-line that wasn’t the most original (which was fine, since everything else made up for it) this one had a story had countless twists and turns. Character relationships were not only tested and shifted, this was one of those movies where you never know exactly where its going, and there were so many surprises throughout. You don’t even know Ultron’s plan until its full activated, so the excitement just keeps on building throughout the film as new surprises and revelations come into play.
Of course, this being a Marvel Movie, I probably shouldn’t have to inform you that the action scenes are both great to look at and exhilarating and that the humor will make you laugh out of your seat multiple times, you know all of that going in. But the thing that surprised me the most about the film is Ultron himself. He’s without a doubt the best villain the MCU has ever had, but not for the reasons you would expect. I thought from the trailers and from my previous knowledge of him that he would be this purely robotic, super serious and threatening villain, and while he is threatening, whats surprising is that he is also the funniest villain in this whole series. Its strange since he’s an AI you wouldn’t expect him to have as much personality as he ultimately does (Maybe they made him like that to imply how advanced his AI is?) but its a welcome change.
There were some problems in the film however. Ultron’s mouth movements were kinda awkward, I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see Black Widows electro-sticks in action like the trailer showed, Thor has a subplot that way too conveniently reveals to him major plot elements, it’s very unclear were exactly Ultron came from and where he got his philosophy (Yes,we know Stark made him using the staff, but how?) and considering what’s coming next for the MCU, the ending was way too clean. Even the end credits scene, while I won’t give away too much, didn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know, though it was cool. I know this paragraph makes it seem like there are a lot of problems, but all of these are really just minor nitpicks. None really destroyed the film and for many they won’t distract at all.
Simply put, this is a absolutely amazing film, among the best Marvel has done. The action is great, the humor is great, the story is great, the characters are great, the villain is great, its just one big pile of great! You should go see as soon as physically possible!
I'm usually all for spoilers (I'm the girl who reads the last page of the book first!), but all the AoU stuff on my dash is irking me for some reason. I may have to do the unthinkable and log off of tumblr until the hype wears off..
