I think one of the underappreciated aspects of the MCU that may have subtly helped it get so big that it takes Superhero cliches that have been done to death to point of annoyance and simply... doesn’t do them. Like the first Iron Man perfectly sets up a comic accurate secret identity plan but then Tony just tells the world the truth. And after him no other movie hero even considers a secret identity except for Peter, but he’s comically bad at keeping that secret and doesn’t have nearly as much angst over it.
Same thing with the “No Kill Rule.” The only person who makes a big deal about it is Dr. Strange, which makes sense since he’s a doctor, but everyone else is just fine blowing bad guys up and we never get a stupid “Killing a mass-murderer makes you just as bad as them” speech. Even Peter in Endgame didn’t have any problems stabbing the army of mindless monsters Thanos had at his disposal.
I get all of this has been done before in the comics, but think about it from the perspective of an average person, who before 2008 didn’t know much about any Superhero other then Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and many a few others. This all must have been really low-key refreshing.
