“I may not be a lion, but I am a Lion’s cub, with a lion’s heart. Men fight wars, women win them.” - Queen Elizabeth,
The Commonwealth of Virginia.
She existed long before the introduction of Europeans in her home. She represented a new hope in the New World, a new beginning. Her history is shrouded in shadows, historical evils alongside historical innovations.
It was her home that saw the end of both the Revolution and the Civil War. It was her home that saw the introduction of African slavery in the New World, her home saw the beginning of the first elected legislative assembly in the New World. Her civilians spoke of revolution, of independence. Her people sought and drafted the era of a new nation. The Mother of Presidents. Named after the Virgin Queen of the Old World, she bears the scars and the nightmares, the hope and the potential of a people that she didn’t ask for, a legacy she did not want; yet here she is now.
A state rocked by tragedies and its own past; the former Capital of a nation of traitors; Her birthright as the beating heart of a new nation stolen from her by a young upstart that she herself had helped raise.
Ladies and Gents, I present to you
The Commonwealth of Virginia.
So, this is my girl, Virginia. This is how I picture her. This incredibly stately (pun intended), incredibly proud woman that bears the scars of her own mistakes and those of her people. She fought in wars alongside her soldiers. She spent much of her time being raised by the English pre-Revolution. She stood as the Capital of a conquered rebellion. She helped raised Alfred until things became too tense. And she is the one that takes no shit and come hell or high water, she’s right there with a left hook or a smart ass comment.
She was also instrumental in the creation and build-up of the American Navy.
She and NC still argue about who has the rights to the Lost Colony of Roanoke/who is affected the most.
She has 3 American Pitbull Terriers, all Rescues: A pure black one called Shadow; a steely gray one called Poe; and a mixed Terrier named Calcifer.
She loves, loves, loves GA and will literally fight anyone for GA.
She hates England, tolerates France, and has no opinion of the rest of Europe.
When she was much younger, she had a slight crush on the Marquis De Lafayette, she especially loved hearing about his wife.
There are some days where she almost hates her baby brother, Alfred, for stealing what was once considered her rightful place as the nation’s capital.
She enjoys learning to sword fight, knife fight, and boxing; she loves constantly learning and growing in her personal skills. She even teaches Alfred how to fight, when she’s feeling particularly kind. Or needs to let off some steam.
She sold her plantation long ago and now lives in a nice two-story home with a wraparound porch and a few acres of land.
She volunteers when she can, at either shelters that are sprinkled throughout her home or animal shelters (she wants to get another dog and she refuses to work at a kill shelter).
Mocks England by declaring that her accent is the original ‘English accent’.
Hates England, but loves tea and coffee.
incredibly health-conscious.
Spent much of WWII in the Pacific Theater of the war.
@casuallyeatingrocks this is for you and I hope you like it! Again, this is my personal interpretation of VA and like I said, a state like Virginia is too vast to have only one Rep, so the sky’s the limit with HCs and personal interpretations.
Thank you for everything!
I did one for VA a while back, but I wound up deleting it. So, if there are any similarities between the two, well then my idea of her is incredibly unchanging!
