I just found this funny because it shows a stereotype. The stereotype being that women are always right no matter what.

Several have defined man as “an animal which laughs.” They might equally well have defined him as an animal which is laughed at; for if any other animal, or some lifeless object, produces the same effect, it is always because of some resemblance to man, of the stamp he gives it or the use he puts it to.
Philosopher, Henri Bergson
I've been pondering about this quote for the past few days. What does it actually mean? After deep thought, the quote reminded me of the video of a baby laughing hysterically, then on command, gives a serious face, then goes back to laughing. He is either laughing at himself or laughing with the people around him. It shows that humans laugh, no matter the situation.
Several have defined man as "an animal which laughs." They might equally call him, an animal which is laughed at; for if any other animal or some lifeless object, produces the same affect, it is always because of some resemblance to man, of the stamps he gives it or the use he puts to it.

Comedy
"You may estimate your capacity for Comic perception by being able to detect the ridicule of them you love, without loving them less: and more by being able to see yourself somewhat ridiculous in dear eyes, and accepting the correction their image of you proposes."
-George Meredith nineteenth-century writer
George Meridith writes that comedy is used to lighten moods with people you love. The point of comedy is to have fun and brighten people's day with humor. Ellen DeGeneres is one of the country's most influential women and knows a thing or two about comedy. She makes people laugh in order to lighten situations. Her purpose, according to this following quote, is to use humor that is not offensive.
"Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at somebody else's expense. And I find that that's just a form of bullying in a major way. So I want to be an example that you can be funny and be kind, and make people laugh without hurting somebody else's feelings." -Ellen DeGeneres

Definitions of Comedy

After contemplating this quote for a few minutes, I finally drew the conclusion that this quote states comedy is merely people laughing at themselves. I find this ironic because man wrote comedy, and we continue to laugh at our own jokes. An example I found that relates to the first sentence of the quote which reads, "Several have defined man as “an animal which laughs'', is the classic comic, Calvin and Hobbes. Throughout the comic, the young boy has humorous adventures with the tiger. I believe the tiger represents a part of the boy, which ultimately means the boy is laughing at himself. Again, this ties back to the idea of the quote that man is laughing at himself.
Now step aside, look upon life as a disinterested spectator: many a drama will turn into a comedy. It is enough for us to stop our ears to the sound of music, in a room where dancing is going on, for the dancers at once to appear ridiculous. How many human actions would stand a similar test? Should we not see many of them suddenly pass from grave to gay, on isolating them from the accompanying music of sentiment? To produce the whole of its effect, then, the comic demands something like a momentary anesthesia of the heart. Its appeal is to intelligence, pure and simple. My example of a comedic situation relating to this definition of comedy would be our smartphones. Without taking into fact that we could we texting, typing, watching, taping, or listening. An outsider would assume we are simply spending long hours staring at a metallic box and touching it. It would seem very strange yet numerous to those who do not know what we are doing.

I believe this video is an example of “an animal which laughs”. Many other people (animals) laugh at him too because of his laughter.
