TD;LR- Commodus and Apollo get to both scream about their relationship (because it's usually only Commodus who does that), Commodus goes off to sulk/stew over it while Apollo completes his trials, then post-ToA they meet again and have a Much Needed Talk

you know you love the ship when you write them breaking up in the most heart-wrenching scenario possible.

The Art of War: I've been DYING to do SOMETHING with Apollo (Favorite Son™) and Ares (Failure Son™) and I have 3 whole scenes in different points of time now!!!

First is when Apollo's young and new on Olympus. He's been shoved onto Ares for the time being because in Ancient Greece, boys were raised by their fathers and girls by their mothers, and when the father was unavailable, it was the eldest brother's job to watch his younger brothers.

Second scene is during/post Ares's kidnapping by the giants! Some Apollo angst, Zeus being the best dad ever (not), and Ares not having a good time.

Third and finally, is a little conversation post-ToA between them :3

The Sun's Rise: At last! Out of the vault! The moment we've been waiting for! Starring our boy Apollo, Prometheus being Prometheus, and a guest star you all should know by now :3

I recalled how he looked sleeping beside me when we were teens. I remembered his easy laugh as we raced through the woods, and the way his face scrunched up adorably when I bounced grapes off his nose.

the wider pjo fandom is very ship orientated. I genuinely wonder if one of the reasons apollo isn't more popular is because of his lack of shipability. like his age makes any ship options really messy in the first place because he feels too old to ship with the teens as apollo but too young to ship with the adults as lester. normally the protagonist ends up with another member of the main cast, but the only other main cast member in ToA is meg, who is DEFINITLEY too young for him plus they have a familial relationship, so no ship options there. he has great chemistry with his exes, but that's just it, they're exes. his exes either now hate him or have died, so you can't really ship them in the present. apollo's already a dad and has had many relationships in his life, so shippers can't latch onto the "first love" or "one true love" tropes that other riordanverse ships have. ToA focuses much more on platonic relationships instead of romantic, so that again reduces the amount of shippers reading it. apollo as lester isn't conventionally good looking and a big part shipping is how attractive people find the characters involved. and of course apollo's the only protagonist in the riordanverse to remain single by the end of their series.

think about how popular will is. do you think he'd be that popular if solangelo didn't exist? think about how the most viral PJO and HoO posts are about percabeth. the fandom loves shipping, and unfortunately apollo suffers because of that

Back on my toa as a starkid musical bs. Has anyone ever watched Spies are Forever? (Technically Tin Can bros but whatever) Because the whole Curt Owen thing always makes me think of Apollo and Commodus.

Spoilers for spies are forever if you want to watch and I highly recommend cause it's one of my faves ⚠️:

It fits so perfect. The murdering your partner and still being traumatized by it years later. Your partner vowing vengeance on you and joining an evil organization. The heartbreak. The angst. The betrayal. Dying a lover and coming back a monster. The way in the end, Apollo and Curt have to kill their respective ex lovers. Also the DMA stabbing anyone and everyone has serious Commodus energy.

If I had the time, patience and energy for it I would do an animatic to 'One step ahead' or that part where Owen is like "our love was over the moment you left me for dead". (If anyone wants to do this please I beg. Will pay in tears of joy )

Unpopular opinion?

Have you ever thought about Apollo/Commodus being soooo hot in this flashback scene in TDP where Apollo was lying on a couch (or what was that) talking to Commodus?

I like scenes they`re interacting in cos there`re so many emotions (especially in flashbacks). Commodus is the only one Roman Emperor who has the common past with Apollo and we really observe it. The way Commodus talks to Apollo, the way he behaves, everything is full of something. There were feelings between them in the past and Apollo thinks about it much. He was very down whe he realised he had to finish Commodus off. Think of Commodus` feelings for Apollo. He really can`t accept the fact that his friend and lover killed him.

Back to the couch scene, it is soooo good. There were Apollo being careless and Commodus behaving familiarly with him and stupid grapes and so on. Somewhere in the past they were special for each other even if it lasted not long. All this distinguishes their interaction from Nero and Caligula`s with Apollo.
