Talking about the readable fonts thing, I don't know how exactly this would work in code but the ability to add/upload fonts that aren't there by default
I assume that would depend on the file type, where it's stored (so thus how it's located), and replacing characters that don't have an equivalent with a default alternative (as in if the font doesn't have a specific look to 'T' then it would just place the T in a different font there)
I mostly say this because while comic sans is awesome, there's usually no options for it in bold.
Suggestions for default fonts? Probably Comic sans (or a variation), Ariel, New York Times (is that what that one's called?)
Also a text size option would be nice but that also requires UI changes to make the text fit properly instead of just replacements
This is a great idea, thank you for your submission! I’m going to use your ask as a chance to explain our current fonts, and why we have chosen them!
The fonts currently used are Fraunces & Nunito as our default pairing, plus Atkinson Hyperlegible and OpenDyslexic offered as alternatives. Fraunces (headers) and Nunito (body text) were chosen because together they give Concordia that warm, slightly cozy feeling we’re going for, to just match the aesthetic of the app overall. Atkinson Hyperlegible was chosen because it’s designed by the Braille Institute specifically for low-vision readers, making easily-confused letters (like 1, l, and I) clearly distinct! OpenDyslexic was chosen because it’s built specifically for dyslexic readers, with heavier letter bottoms that make characters harder to flip or swap while reading — and this font made by and for the community it serves, something we support heavily!
We love the idea of letting users upload their own custom fonts too, and it’s something we’ll definitely be looking into! We will also look into how the app looks and works with the fonts suggested, and if anyone else has suggestions, we would love to hear them!
