General Hillbilly Headcanons Regarding Other Killers

Max finds a lot of comfort in Bubba. Whilst this is a headcanon that’s pretty much said throughout most of the community, I do still stand for it. The relationship started out pretty rocky (in all honesty, whenever Bubba did those squeals, it frightened the life out Max), but they soon got it working. They were interested in each other’s tools, and that slowly developed into realising they had more in common than they thought. Now, they’re pretty much... Best friends? None of them speak (Max makes grunts and groans and Bubba does those squeals and squeaks), and yet the two of them seem to have an understanding. You’ll see the two of them making weird hand gestures at each other, and it’s like a very primitive form of sign language that they’ve developed on their own. They only have a few phrases worked out in said little language, but it’s enough to work. Come here, thank you, goodbye, hey, those sorts of things. 

Max deeply looks up to Evan, who he sees as some sort of father figure. He’s never had a father he could really look up to and doesn’t understand what a father should be like, but anyone on the outside looking in can see that he does see Evan that way, even if he doesn’t understand it himself. Max is always seeking Trapper’s approval, and he likes to constantly show him things he’s been tinkering with. One day, Evan passively handed over a bear trap and, “tinker with that,” and Max had never felt so overjoyed. Evan. The big man himself. The one who was often dubbed the Entity’s favourite. He was giving Max this... Responsibility? Amazing.

Max is low-key afraid of Wraith. He doesn’t like that Philip just comes out of no where. It’s scary. He understand that Phil is a nice guy that won’t hurt him, but every time he materialises out of thin air, Max just gets spooked. After realising this, Philip tries his best to make sure that Max is always aware of his presence to prevent any scares, and after that, the two get on just fine. 

Max really likes Sally. Especially when she doesn’t have the bag on her on her head, opting to have her auburn curls hanging loose with a simple bandage over her eyes. He thinks her hair is the prettiest thing he’s ever seen. It’s so vibrant. Despite this, she’s prone to fits of anger that do frighten him, but... When she’s calm and placid, she’s nice. 

A scary motherfucker? Demogorgon. Max can’t stand him. He’s scary. And when he scREAMS ??? Max doesn’t know what to do with himself he thinks he’s gonna get his hands bitten off

Vibes with Michael. Michael’s a quiet boy who stares a lot, and Max seems to think that the staring means he wants to be friends. Michael doesn’t care. But. Y’know. 

Max likes Herman. Mostly because he finds Herman’s laugh funny and it makes him want to laugh and then when he laughs, Herman laughs more and it’s just an endless cycle. 

Hag tries to teach Max some symbols and they both draw together in the dirt.

Anna wasn’t a big fan of Max at first. However, after some time, she does grow very fond of him. Constantly patting his head and whatnot. He likes to give her flowers. She likes his rather gentle nature.

Max tried to make friends with Amanda but Amanda proceeded to literally growl at him and he was like nope i’m out

He actually really likes Kenneth. Why? Because Kenneth throws those pink tonics around and to Max???? It’s like fucking magic. Plus Kenneth once pulled a coin out of literally no where and since then on Max was like. yes. this man. this man may be weird. and kinda scary. but he’s magic man.

Caleb enters the realm with his big ass cowboy hat and Max is like !!!!! big hat!!!! hat friends!!! max likes hats

plus caleb once put his hat down for 0.2 seconds and max thought he was sneaky as he picked it up and put it on and then caleb turned around and was like,,,,, “well ain’t u somethin’” and max was like : )

max keeps thinking that rin is cold so he keeps trying to put his shirts on her and rin does appreciate it she really does so usually u can just see her wandering around with raggedy plaid on

Encountering

Happy Max Day! I love this man so much, I’m excited to see what others have done! Here’s my contribution for today @highdwightofmylife

You looked down at your clasped hands, a frown on your face. You were unlucky enough to get the energetic trinity: Meg, Feng, and Nea. Those three tend to be very boisterous when together, sometimes too much for you to handle. They weren’t rude towards you. They had tried to include you, but your trials today had been very exhausting.

“Maybe another time,” you had suggested with a tired smile. The girls had agreed and sat chatting across the fire from you. Horrible, horrible trials. The Killers always seemed to know what to do to push you to you limits.

You were tired of the pain. You were tired of the adrenaline. You were tired of the bloodshed. And the girls talking about the trials in front of you were not helping. With a huff, you stood up and began walking. No calls come after you.

This wasn’t the first time you had walked off from the campfire. Hell, quite a few of your friends have gone walking, too. And they’ve learned how to travel.

When one does not focus, they can wind up anywhere. But when there is somewhere specific, say a place where someone could climb onto cars, the Survivors found that they could go where they wanted to go.

But there can be dangers to that. On one occasion, Jeff and Kate were chased out of Ormond by the entire Legion. But it has only happened once in a while, and there has been no casualties.

Quiet, you imagine, twigs cracking under your feet. Quiet.

When you break through the trees, you find yourself at the edge of a cornfield, the shack merely a few feet away. A tall, white tumbledown house stands guard over the field, creaking ominously.

Despite the atrocities you had faced within the premises, this is the closest place to being your favorite. It’s warmer here than in other parts of the Fog. You suspect that this place might’ve been near the south, perhaps even the mid-west.

You let out a heavy sigh, and enter the cornfield. The quiet rustling of the plants brings a smile to your face. The Entity has made the crops dry and brittle, but the texture of the leaves is comforting. Finally, you begin to calm down. Nothing is perfect, shit, it’s hell here, but you managed to find some peace here. You unconsciously make your way toward the house, letting your feet lead you onward.

A sudden feeling of unease takes you by surprise. You blink, brows furrowing. You’ve never felt this before. You can’t be in a trial; the feeling of falling didn’t come. You were used to trusting your gut, but sometimes it leads to failure. You pause, at the edge of the corn in front of the house.

You look around…

…

And see him.

The Hillbilly. He stands halfway down the stairs, his posture uneven. He stares at you, gurgling breath coming and going. His white, glowing eyes catch your orbs, holding you down with his stare. His scarred form always caused a pang to run through you. You can’t imagine why he is the way he is.

Another realization hits you, fear taking root. You were on his land. You were invading his territory. You should be running for your life, just like in the trials. You should be trying to find a pallet, or an escape route. He should be hobbling after you, chasing you with his strange gait. He should be revving up his blood painted chainsaw, the sound of which struck fear into the those who heard it. He-

…

He doesn’t have any of his weapons. The cattle hammer and the chainsaw are not present.

He continues to stare at you. You swallow, taking a small step back, trying to anticipate his next move. He surprises you again when he lets out a deep sigh, leaning down and taking a seat on the stairs.

It’s clear to you now. The Hillbilly doesn’t…have any motives. He has no desire to hunt you down, and he obviously doesn’t care about your presence.

Maybe he’s…tired, like how the Survivors are. Like how you are tired. You never thought the Killers didn’t like the trials, but seeing the Hillbilly now, casually sitting on his front steps, you begin to think that…they might not be so different after all.

…

Was it exhaustion? Maybe it was stupidity? Whatever it was, it led to you walking up to the front steps. The Hillbilly watches every step you take as you sit down a few feet away from him. You lean forward, as if prepared to run at the first sign of trouble, but you are there.

Max is…confused. When he first saw you, he was surprised. He had seen Survivors come onto his land before, but they never stayed here as long as you have. You…interested him. You were the first Survivor to not show fear to him, let alone sit next to him.

…

When he arrived in this place, the others had welcomed him, despite his…strange habits. They taught him the difference between off time and trials. He had made friends with them.

This Survivor, this bravery they show him…This small act of kindness of just sitting with him. He feels like maybe…

Maybe he is making another friend.

When the Hillbilly raises his hand from his side, you lean forward ever-so-slightly. But nothing could prepare you for what happens next.

“Max.”

You blink, your eyes wide, mouth slightly agape. The Killer points to himself, saying the name again. His voice is rough, yet quiet. His glowing eyes watch you, waiting.

You realize he’s waiting for you. You stutter, still amazed in the normalcy of this situation. “Oh, um,” you point to yourself, mimicking him, “(Y/n).”

‘Max’ tilts his head, sounding out your name. “(Y/…n). (Y/n).”

You feel a smile pulling at your lips. “Mhm. It’s nice to meet you, Max.”

He looks up at you, his drooping mouth lifting up at the corners. You lean back against the stairs, taking this time to relax. And as you talk to Max, hearing what he has to say, you realize that maybe…

Maybe he isn’t as bad as you thought he was.

Max Receiving Small Gifts From S/O

Okay. So. Max is... 

Very easily impressed.

You could give him the simplest of things and this boy would be absolutely overjoyed.

He’s just pure like that.

You could literally hand this boy a weed and he’d be like ??? for m E ??? om G (insert excited squeals)

But this ask isn’t about random ass gifts you pick up from the side of the path. This is about things that you make with your bare hands. Flower crowns, beautiful wreaths, anything. In the Fog, there isn’t a lot of things to help your creativity to flow, but you make do. If you ask Max to fetch you some wood, he’ll be more than happy to provide you with some. Sometimes the random sticks you find aren’t quite what you’re looking for, and Max doesn’t mind cutting down a tree or two to provide you with all the wood you may need. 

In fact, he’ll help you gather any resources. You need a very specific colour of flower? Count him in. You need a rock that shaped in a very specific way? He’ll be on his hands and knees and scouring the dirt for you. He’ll do anything for you. 

Max is also pretty much best friends with Bubba, who is also very... Creative. Maybe not in the same way you are, but he does have a knack for finding things. As you’re the s/o of Max, Bubba learns quickly to trust you, and he’ll also help you gather and make things if you just tell him it’s for Max. This is useful if you’d rather keep it a surprise from your boyfriend. And you don’t have to worry about Bubba telling him because, well, the man can’t say anything except scREEEEE and hgGH HHHH.

When you spend your precious time making him things, Max is absolutely beside himself. He doesn’t quite view himself as worthy of your time, and the fact that you’ve spent so long just to make something for him? The thought upsets him for a moment. 

Please reassure him that you enjoy making him things. Help him see that he could never be a waste of your time. 

It might take a few gifts just for him to really begin to believe that you’re not making him things out of obligation, but because you want to. 

He gives you flowers all the time and sometimes gives you random pieces of wood with nails and stuff hammered into it and you can only assume it’s his try of art. 

He also likes to give you bits of scrap metal. Sometimes that he’s ripped clean off generators. You tend to find that he only gives you very shiny bits of metal though. Maybe he thinks that you like shiny things. Maybe he heard once that you’re supposed to give your love shiny, precious things to show how much you care.

But yeah, I’m rambling, oops.

Once he gets used to you giving him things, you can see just how excited he gets. His eyes light up and his hands start flapping and he just can’t contain himself. He’s baby.

Will always give you something back the next day.
