🚒 How will Buck get over the Buckley Family Secret? 🚒
!!! SPOILERS FOR 911 4x04 !!!
As I was angsting over this week's episode I realised some very interesting and important things (together with my partner in crime @firefighter-diaz🙌🏼)!
So we know now that the secret Maddie and their parents were keeping from Buck was that there was a third Buckley sibling, Daniel, who died for some unknown reason that will be revealed in next week's episode.
While we can't say anything for sure, it's likely that Daniel was sick which is why mArGaReT (sorry... no, I'm not) said that she doesn't like hospitals when Buck brought up being injured several times on the job.
Buck probably had a crucial part in the past regarding Daniel, be it him having been a his brother's bone marrow donor due to Daniel having leukemia or something or equal importance, hence their parents always treating him as a disappointment after Daniel's death. BUT this is not what this post is about (we will find out about this next week). I think it would have to be something like this, because keeping a dead sibling a secret while definitely would have an impact, it wouldn't be about Buck specifically.
What I realised though is that there is a parallel between Margaret and Phillip losing one of their children and Bobby losing his children.
We already had some foreshadowing regarding Buck and Bobby's relationship in the crossover episode where Buck said that 'his fire captain is not his dad, but might as well be'. So it seems that the writers want this almost father-son dynamic these two got going on to become more highlighted.
My guess is that Bobby will be the one to get through to Buck after learning about the news about his dead brother. Buck was treated so freakint poorly by his parents, both him and Maddie. Maddie was 9 years old when Daniel died and she had to keep this secret and carry it's burden for decades now. She was just a kid. As for Buck, he has been living in an unknown shadow all his life, he never understood why his parent couldn't just love him like a parent should love their child, he never understood why he had to feel like a constant disappointment. But now he does and knowing Buck, he's gonna spiral and question everything he thought to be true about himself.
I think it's fair to say that this parallel between the Buckley parents and Bobby is not a coincidance. As I see it, it would be logical for Bobby to be the one who can get through to Buck. He would tell him how Margaret and Phillip are not just bad parents, but bad people too. Grief is such a devastating feeling, but nothing excuses abandoning your children, not even if the grief comes from losing one of them. The Buckleys handled that grief by stepping back from parenting and leaving the task of taking care of Buck, who was either just a baby or not even born yet (depending on what the writers go with), to Maddie, just a child herself. They failed to step up as parents, they should've gave everything into raising their children, love, support and all the care in the world. That's a parent's job. But they failed.
I think Bobby would be able to make Buck understand that he is not a disappointment and he shouldn't have ever felt like one. He would tell him proud of him and the man he's become. This will be the key point in their relationship where both of them officially admit to seeing each other as family, father and son.
I might be wrong but I think all evidence leads to this being the case.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this, feel free to add your opinions as well!🤗
Hi it's totally ok if you don't want to reply to this, but what was the Twitter drama? I saw a screenshot but the entire tweet wasn't visible and the account was "private" or something (idk twitter lol) so I couldn't find it on twitter
hey!👋🏼
no problem at all, i’d be lost without mutuals & friends spilling the tea for my uninformed ass so i totally get not having a clue about what’s going on! that’s me from an hour ago😂
so basically the tweet in the center of this whole chaos is this:
after this oliver announced that he is deactivating his twitter
the issue itself is a lot more complex tho, it wasn’t because of this single tweet that he decided to do it, he had enough of people harassing him about buddie under every single one of his tweets and just like, not treating him with respect
because people don’t know what it looks like being respectful, decent or non-toxic
this is the sparknotes version🙏🏼
i tagged every posts i reblogged regarding this with ‘leave oliver alone’ and ‘oliver stark’ so if you wanna know more feel free to check out those!
i know 911 is supposed to be 'just a tv show'
