This week Han, Cil, and Rachel RSVP to the family dinner from hell as we tackle Season 4 Episode 4, "9-1-1, What's Your Grievance?"

Chimney gets handed a secret that’s more of a ticking time-bomb, Maddie invites Margaret and Philip to town for reasons that perplex both Buck and us, and Buck shows up armed with de-escalation techniques from therapy. Because apparently seeing his own parents requires hostage negotiation prep. 

We break down the famous “Love Me Anyway” scene, the score's literal ticking clock underneath Buck's meltdown, and why we think this episode does the real emotional heavy lifting to set up “Buck Begins.” We also dig into Maddie's blind spot for the Buckley parents, the one perfect big-sister moment she gives Buck right before everything blows up again, and Chimney's full-body conflict-avoidant spiral trying to keep a secret that he doesn’t even think should be kept. so like why was eddie just watching buck hit a punching bag after that family dinner? buck was letting off some steam mindlessly punching the punching bag and eddie was just there?? admiring something diaz?

Buck Begins is everything but if we can just focus for a sec on the episode before: Thee thing we think of as like THE Buck quote, the formative scene, “love me anyway,” that thing? Buck told Eddie all about it. Right away.

Maddie and Chim were witnesses to his blow up but he didn’t talk to either of them about it. He went to Eddie instead and told him the whole saga, the tragedy in 97 acts, if you will—what he said, how he said it, why. Shared it with Eddie, someone who would never have known about it if Buck didn’t tell him. Buck told Eddie even though it was something Buck felt guilty about, something so vulnerable, he says it made him feel like he was twelve years old. Something he says outright he’s embarrassed of. He told Eddie. He didn’t have to.

I know it's old news, but I just noticed that Eddie kept his foot there the whole time so Buck couldn't push the stand over and it's not a big thing, but it's just one of those small supportive gestures he does without even drawing attention to it and I'm chewing my hands off as we speak
