oh you fen'harel'ed us you fucker?
Warden Evka: "None of us signed up to kill Gods."
Me:
really dumb post I made months ago that y'all will hopefully appreciate
Making the archdemons Ghilan'nain's creations is... Definitely a choice (with a very obvious purpose of putting more "I know we made elves oppressed in this universe and are constantly saying how they deserve it but look at how bad and evil they were! Let's wipe out another clan of those dalish losers that are stuck in the past and cling to their people's history lol" bullshit in), that is just... So so boring and disappointing to me...
I loved the mystery surrounding the archdemons and the blight, the separation between the truth and what in universe characters and organizations (The Chantry, The Grey Wardens etc) consider the truth, making it tied to ancient elves instead of making them even more ancient and incomprehensible than beings like the immortal reality bending evanuris is just... cheep- that's the first thing that comes to my mind I'm sorry. I can definitely get behind ancient elves trying to use the blight in some way but making them responsible for the archdemons' creation is too much.
Further rambling on my Dragon Age Lore confusion (Solas and the Elves specifically)
In DA4 there's this part where you hear part of a conversation between Mythal and Solas about him taking form. Dude's a spirit and being rather insistent he has no interest in taking form, but Mythal continues to argue and plead until he essentially sighs and goes "well shit." Fascinating, as that WAS referenced by Cole (I think?) in Inquisition.
However, the rest of the lore dumping confused the fuck outta me. Bro... Did they retcon Solas' "burning her off his face" thing? I feel like they did??? A lot of DA4 feels rushed and never actually addressing whatever the fuck Solas and Mythal actually have going on is sooooo confusing. I personally doubt they were lovers, but I do think they were insanely close both pre-taking form and once they both took form. But I feel like we never fully address a lot of the rebellion bit? I'm... A lot of the lore dumped feels very hand-wavy and rushed. And the Lyrium Dagger is a McGuffin. An extremely annoying one? What the fuck was the Orb in Inquisition then? What was any of this shit for? It was ALLUDED that the orb was a key to building the Veil. But now it's the dagger? What the orb just a battery? The fuck????
Also also: hilarious to find out that Solas was so fucking pissed about the Wardens in Inquisition because KILLING THE ARCHDEMONS MEANT BREAKING THE FUCKING VEIL AND APPARENTLY KILLING THE GOD BATTERIES? But did Solas actually figure out that the Old Gods were the Evanuris? Or did he just, as a dude who generally is not Pro-Dragon Killing and also hates anything to do with the Blight, get upset about it in general? Still think it's kinda wack that while the Gods were apparently powering the Veil, Inquisition happened. Like... Shouldn't that have killed a few more Evanuris? And what the hell does that mean about that evil alternate future with Corypheus via the Mage Route in Inquisition? Did that just mean the worlds didn't properly blend because technically the gods were still alive and just aimlessly powering a barrier? Or what?
I am SOOOO fucking confused.
What did you think the Old gods were before Veilguard?
My friend and I were discussing this recently, and we're both surprised at what/who the Old gods were revealed to be. Mostly because the way we read all the lore bits sprinkled about them throughout the games didn't quite line up with them being the same as the Elvhen gods. That being said we didn't agree on what we thought they were prior to Veilguard. This got me curious as to what the general populace thought they were before the last game released.
What/who did you think the Old gods were before Veilguard?
Connected to, but separate from the Elvhen gods
Their own, powerful, ancient entity
They were horcruxes or keys
What we got in Veilguard
Something else (please comment what 🙂)
WOAH HOLD ON why UH why is it that the Evanuris can take hold of the Old Gods ONLY if they get blighted and turn into Archdemons?? Did I miss the explanation?
Couldn’t they like just connect and take hold if it’s their essence in them?
