Surprising Ruby

This is my first fic ever, so sorry if it’s not as amazing as the rest of y’all on here. A little Oscar/Ruby fluff. 

No spoilers. 

Exactly 500 words :)

Tightly tying up his shoes, Oscar smiled to himself. It was the anniversary of the Trials, the day Ruby and him became part of the Renegades. He was taking Ruby out to a fancy dinner, and was more than excited.

He dialed Ruby’s number, just making sure she was ready before he headed over to her place.

“Hey I’m about to leave. I just wanted to che-,” he stopped, hearing her start to hyperventilate, “Ruby?”

“Oscar, yeah, hey, I’m so sorry but I’m going to have to cancel. My grandma had an accident, she’s in the hospital, and I had to go to my family’s and watch the twins. I’m sorry I didn’t call you, so much is going on and I just can’t-” Ruby rambled.

Cutting her off before she started to get more upset he said, “Hey, no, it’s okay love really. I completely understand. Do you want me to come by? Bring you something?”

“No no, no, no um, I’m fine. I’m really so sorry I messed up our date! I know you spent time planning it. We’re a mess, stay home and I dunno, play something. I’m really really sorry?”

“I know, don’t stress. Tell the twins I say hi, okay?”

“Yea I will, thank you.”

“I didn’t even do anything,” he laughed, “Stay safe, bye” He ended the call and slid his phone in his pocket. 

Kicking his shoes off, he wandered into the kitchen and opened the fridge. 

I just want to help her.

He knows how much Ruby and her family love their grandma. They were probably freaking out. 

Slamming the fridge shut, he leaned against the counter. 

Why can’t I?

He turned around, started washing his hands, and got to work.

...

He started up Ruby’s old apartment. Oscar carried a backpack, filled with clothes, books, a vanilla spice candle (Ruby’s favorite), and a phone charger since she probably forgot hers. 

In one hand he held takeout: chow mein - Sterling’s favorite, chicken tikka and butter chicken - Ruby and Jade’s favorite. In the other, he held a big tupperware of cookies. Technically it was Adrian’s tupperware, but no one’s counting. 

He almost made it to the apartment, before he started having second thoughts. She did say to stay home. She probably doesn’t want to see me.

Right before he reached the doorway, the door swung open. A little blond head stuck out. “Oscar?” Jade asked, “What are you doing here?”

“Oh hey buddy. I just wanted to check in, drop some things off for you and your siblings.”

Jade rolled his eyes (apparently he was starting the teen phase) and gestured him inside.

He walked in, and immediately heard Ruby yell out, “Jade get your butt in here, we need to clean for when they get back! You said you’d help me-” She turned a corner to see Oscar just standing by the entryway. 

Her mouth opened a little, the spray bottle and rag she was holding forgotten.

He chuckled, “Not even a hello?”

Again first fic ever. I would love a like or a reblog, that’ll make my day. If you have any tips or tricks on writing I would love any advice :) Actually tho, I know nothing about writing haha

supernovas ending was actually really good

okay so I know what you're thinking, how could you say that!!!!!! it left so many un answered questions!!!!     I thought the same way when it ended, I scoured the internet for any clues that mm would continue the series, but I don't think she will and here's why. In a story with a constant war for equality and power the end can't end with just everything being an amazing utopia where everyones treated fairly like we wanted. There will always be people wanting power, that think they're better than others. Look at our world right now, there's still so much inequality but we have definitely made some improvements from the past. I feel like ace was able to make one step towards a better life for prodigies but only at the end of supernova was where they made the second step towards equality by letting everyone have powers and honoring the villains.  By having Maggie as the point of view for the epilogue we see the cycle again. (im going with the theory that Maggie’s actually Evie) we see exactly what nova saw at the beginning of renegades but its with different people. instead of seeing Hugh and Simon she sees nova and Adrian, instead of seeing the council Maggie sees Danna, Oscar, narcissa, and ruby. Maggie sees the possibility of more inequality just like how nova saw that inequality is still strong even after the age of anarchy. novas battle was destroying the bad vs good mentality, and maggies battle is going to be taking another step by taking charge of all prodigies are equal no matter how strong you are. im actually so impressed with mm, she started the book with an Artino falling for an everheart and trying to “help” with equality issues and she ends the book with another (more then likely) Artino seeing the same things. 

so its safe to assume what happens next, nova finds out that Maggies her sister and she tries to be like what Adrian was to her, until she finds out that Maggies right and things still need to change. This cycle will continue and I know it sucks that we won't get to see these characters do these things but I feel like we would be disappointed to see basically the same plot but being significantly more bored because instead of it being awesome fights, I feel it would be more political.

Presents

My Secret Santa is @princessselene126 so here’s a short Nodrain fic where there is a Christmas party.

How was Adrian able to talk me into this? A Christmas party at Renegades HQ? If it wasn’t for Ace telling me to earn his trust I wouldn’t come.

The party wasn’t as big as I expected. Maybe 50 or so Renegades were there. The Council was also here. Wearing suits and dresses in red. A few Renegades were also wearing dresses and suits. I felt a bit underdressed since I was only wearing a dark red sweater and jeans.

“Nova!”

I looked over at the snack table and saw Oscar and Ruby placing cookies on the table.

Ruby and Oscar were both wearing ugly sweaters. Oscars taking the cake with an actual ribbon on wrapped around his sweater.

“Were we supposed to wear ugly sweaters?” I asked looking at them.

“I have no idea,” Ruby said looking at the crowd. A mash of formal wear, casual clothing and a few ugly sweaters. “There wasn’t a dress code so a few people just picked whatever. I think I saw someone come here wearing pajamas.”

I nodded. “So where’s Adrian?”

“I think he went to Max to give him a present and some of the cookies me and Ruby made.” Oscar said looking proud of himself.

“I did the baking,” Ruby glanced at Oscar. “All he did was eat raw cookie dough and taste test the cookies.”

“That-” I hesitated. “can give you salmonella. You know that right?”

Oscar guffawed. “You can’t get salmonella from cookie dough.”

“Oscar don’t.” Ruby warned.

“Because it’s not salmon.”

Ruby and I both groaned. I should have seen that coming.

“What did I miss?” Adrian had just popped up behind me.

“Oscar made a bad pun.” Ruby deadpanned.

“I’m not going to ask what the pun was,” He looked over Ruby and Oscar. “Where’s Danna?”

“Behind us?” Ruby said.

“She’s not behind you.” I pointed between them.

Ruby turned back and a look of shock was on her face. “We lost Danna.”

“I don’t think you did,” Adrian said looking at Danna who was standing by the snack table.

“Danna!” Ruby walked over to her and gave her a hug. “I thought I lost you.”

“I said I was going to the restroom,” Danna deadpanned.

“Did Max like his gift?” Danna asked.

“Yeah he seemed to like it,” Adrian said.

“What’d you get him?” I asked.

“I just made another dinosaur,” Adrian shrugged his shoulders. “He’s been saying Turbo has been lonely so I made another.”

“That’s good,” I said.

“I also have a gift for you,” He pulled out a red envelope with a bow on it.

“Oh I didn’t get you anything.” I took the gift and a blush started to creep on my cheeks.

“It’s fine. You don’t have to get me anything.” He looked at the package and at me. “Are you going to open it?”

I snapped out of my daze and looked at the package. I opened it and pulled out the paper. It was a drawing of a girl. A drawing of me.

“Do you like it?” He scratched the back of his head. “I didn’t know what you wanted so I made a drawing of you.”

“I really like it,” I felt a smile on my face.

He smiled back. “Glad you do.”

I have to read an essay for one of my classes, and it’s about actual Anarchists and defending them, which is great, but every time they talk about Anarchists all I can think about is Renegades...

okay, i had trouble with this. I think it’s still pretty good, if anyone has some constructive criticism/tips i wouldn’t mind hearing it :) enjoy

To Zip or Knot to Zip

“Adrian! Come in,” Ruby announced. 

Oscar, Adrian, Danna, and Narcissa were meeting up at Ruby and Nova’s apartment before heading over to watch this second era musical that Narcissa loved.

“Shit,” Nova murmured. She was all ready but couldn’t contort herself enough to fully zip up the dress. The tips of her fingers could just barely reach the zipper, but her arm was twisted and the dress was so tight that she couldn’t pull it up. This is why she didn’t wear stupid dresses.

“Nova-,” she snapped her head around at the sound of someone’s voice. Adrian’s head had popped in, but in a second he jerked it back, “Sorry, I thought you were-.”

Dropping her hands, she turned to the door, “No it’s fine, can you come in and help me actually? If you don’t mind of course.”

Quietly, he walked in and zipped up her dress. Grinning, she spun around and gently draped her arms on his shoulders. “Why thank you, now are we-” she paused, her eyes landing on his tie, “Um, what’s this?”

“It’s my tie? You got a problem with that?” he retorted.

“I got a problem with my boyfriend not being able to do normal tasks nicely.”

He gently pulled her closer.

“Like you could do much better, tiny hands,” he teased.

Scoffing, she grabbed his ‘tie’ and pulled him over to her small vanity. Using both her hands, he was pushed down onto her bench seat. Choking back laughter at his expression, she started to undo his tie.

“Is that a challenge, art boy?” she quipped back. Instead of doing a four in hand, or any sort of normal knot for a tie, he had basically done a figure 8 knot. On. A. Tie.

After she took the wrinkly light blue tie out of its misery, she straightened it against her stomach. It did nothing, but she didn’t have time to fix this wrinkled mess.

“I usually just draw on a bow tie, don’t judge me!” he exclaimed. She straightened his collar, tied the topmost button, and placed the tie under the collar.

“Oh that ship has sailed hon, chin up.” She crossed the sides of the tie, then brought the fat side up under and over the collar part of the tie.

“You really can’t be nice, can you?” he replied sassily. She rolled her eyes, and turned the part she was holding around the thin part.

“I can, I just don’t want to. For instance, you look really nice. Did you pick blue on purpose?” she questioned. Gently, she passed the tie through the loop and pulled it through. She paused, taking a second to straighten it all out.

“Aw thank you, and no I didn’t. I guess we are just really in sync.” Adrian reached out, settling his hands on her waist, rubbing the silky fabric in between his forefingers and thumbs. Electricity sparked from his fingertips. She slightly reddened. Casual touch was still something she couldn’t understand. Well, she understood it. She didn’t understand why it still made her feel this way though.

“Or maybe you know that I only own two dresses, red and blue,” she laughed. 

After it was all straightened out, she wrapped the tie around the almost-knot and pulled it under the collar for the last time.

“Well then how come I’m not wearing a red tie?”

“Touche,” Nova admitted. Loosening the part of the tie that she wrapped around the knot, she took the tip of the tie and tucked it under the band of fabric. Supporting the knot with one hand, she pulled the tie through. Smiling, she grasped the now fully formed Windsor knot and pulled it up, securing it tightly. Straightening up his collar she brushed off his shoulders, “How’s that?’

“Inspiring, I wanna be just like you when I grow up,” he said flatly.

Shaking her head, she grabbed his hands to pull him up.

“The rest of the team will be here soon, c’mon,” she told him. ___

Tilting her head up in his grip, she asked Adrian where his blazer was. The team had all arrived and they were all about to leave. “Your room,” he murmured. She pulled his arms away from her waist, and went to her room. 

Once she opened the door, she sought out the jacket.

She finally found it on the floor under her bench seat.

Picking it up, something small fell out.

Crouching down she picked it up. It was red and silky.

Oh

It was a red tie.

Nodrian - Star Gazing

A car door slammed shut, waking him up. Blinking the sleep out of his eyes he stretched his arms, and took a moment to make sense of his surroundings. Oh right, Nova surprising him. She said she wanted to take him to a pretty spot.

Apparently the ‘pretty spot’ was just a rest stop in the middle of the mountains. It seemed pretty normal, a gas station, picnic benches, and a small structure with bathrooms and vending machines. Pretty normal, and not at all scary in the middle of the night. Or whatever time it was.

“Nova?” he called out. Getting out of the car, he wondered what was up with her. The whole ride she just looked over and smiled. Well, the part that he has been awake for. Nova had planned a date, and at the end she said she had a surprise for him. 

“Nova? Where are you?” he asked singsongly. He shuffled around the car looking for her. He was still a little bit disoriented.

Adrian walked around towards the trunk. Which was open. He peered in, just to see a very frazzled Nova trying to straighten a blanket over the folded down seats. It was already dark out, and just getting darker. Her main light source was a small flashlight, which was nestled in between two small bags.  

Deciding to mess with her, he crouched down, trying to hide. Carefully he reached up, patting around trying to find the flashlight. Finding it, he carefully pulled it out. 

“Excuse me,” a gentle voice came from above, followed by a sharp pinch to his forearm. “OW,” he screeched, falling on his butt. 

“That’s what you get,” she calmly countered, jumping off the car, “Why didn’t you call me after you woke up?” 

Still rubbing his arm, Adrian grumbled, “I tried.”

Smiling, she bent down and kissed the spot. Popping a hip out, she nodded her head up, gesturing for him to get up. 

He stood and finally saw the trunk fully. She had folded the seats down, and covered the windows with a sheet. Pillows littered the area, with fluffy blankets piled around. In one corner, she had set up a small crate with drinks and snacks. 

“I left the heater running for you,” she complained. Nova walked back up to the driver’s seat and fully turned off the car. It took his eyes a second to adjust, but after he did he noticed a few small fake candles around the edges. He didn’t realize it had gotten so late. 

She hurried back, and laced her fingers in his. 

“So do you like the view?” she asked. Looking down at her eager face, “Yes.” he gushed without missing a beat.

Rolling her eyes, she pushed him gently. “The sky? I thought you would like it.”

“What view-” she pulled him around and his jaw honest-to-god dropped.

She pulled up just barely up-against a cliff. Under which was a clear, sparkling lake. The moonlight danced over the gentle movement of the water. Trees surrounded the lake, the tallest of which faded away into the sky. The sky. It was a sea of navy blood, with pin-pricks of white light peeping through. He could see every single star, or at least he thought so. There was a streak of what looked like split milk off to the side. Some stars had a reddish tinge to them, others more yellow. There was just too much to look at. He couldn’t take it all in. Constant life, even though they were the only things there. 

“I’ll guess that you like it?” she speculated.

He didn’t have any words for her. Adrian let her pull her in the car. He pried his eyes off the sight, and smiled at Nova. 

Grabbing a pillow, he smacked her legs. “No shit,” he replied and ceded to Nova’s offense. 

Well, that wasn’t exactly what I wanted but I’m a sucker for detailed descriptions. I’m pretty new to fanfics, so I hope you liked it! Btw, I have another fic kinda like this one, if you liked it. Here, but we warned it’s confusing and rambly. pls like/reblog yall!
