Aiming is the most important part of archery. In the end, everything is valueless if your timing is not perfect. Aiming is the final part before you can let your arrow fly. I know you are feeling excited to fire the arrow! Just wait a little bit. Before shooting the arrow, let’s discuss how to aim.
This is with or without a perfect peep sight with your bow. With the sight, you will have to learn a lot on how to use it. Without it requires skills, bit different ones.
Two different ways of aiming
In archery, there are two different ways of aiming. First is, a traditional way which is aiming without sights and other one is aiming with a sight.
In recent times, most archers prefer to aim with a sight. This makes their performance more accurately. But there are still some archers who still prefer to aim with their basic instinct and experience.
in the Safariors blog, the archer specialists actually tells to relax when you are aiming. Whether you are aiming with or without sight, there is one thing you need to do while aiming. Let’s talk about that first.
While you are aiming, keep your both eyes open. It becomes difficult to measure and estimate the distance of your target when you close one of your eyes.
How to aim without a sight
When someone is aiming without a sight, then we call it instinctive archery. An instinctive method is called the purest form of traditional shooting. This method of aiming is the method of when the bow was first used
In this method of aiming, you don’t really aim at your target. You just focus on the point you want your arrow to land. Then you raise your bow in a straight upward motion, then just draw and shoot. You just need to concentrate on your target and your brain will do the rest. It’s similar to throwing a ball in some distance. A young child can’t control where the ball to fly. But when you do enough practice, he will be able to do it. Like that, if you want to use this method of aiming then you need to practice a lot to perfect your aim.
At first, you need to practice in a short distance with your target. Then slowly increase your distance.
The positive side of aiming with this method is, you don’t have to depend on any technical instrument. By learning instinctive archery, you can guess the distance of your target and how high or low you have to aim your bow.
There is various quality of sights available in the market. Some are adjustable and expensive. And some are less adjustable but cheap in price.
Sights in archery are quite similar to the gun and rifle sights. In archery, you need to set the sight in a distance. Just imagine, you sight in your bow for 50 meters. Then when your target is 50 meter far, you need to hold the pin of your sight directly over the target and shoot the arrow.
If the target is closer then you aim lower and if it’s further away, you need to aim higher from the center.
There can be various pins in your sight. Those pins represent different ranges. So, when the distance is known to you, you can set the pin to that range.
The single pin sights are most likely the best from my point of view. The distance to your target can be adjusted by turning an adjusting screw. The benefit of these sights is, you don’t need to aim higher or lower. Just set the distance and can always aim directly to your target.
You may have some questions about whether you should aim with or without sight. I know some archers who are fantastic archers who aim without sights. On the other side, if you use a sight that doesn’t mean you will become an expert in a short time. Both methods need a lot of practice to become perfect in aiming. So it’s your choice which method you are going to choose in archery.
