I really liked the architecture in colombia. The brickwork was inspiring. Altbo these particular buildings were not spectacular. Irs just so rare in the states to see anu brick buildings of any real hieght. At least in Atlanta. When u go up North u see more preserved brick structures. Mayne not so much that they have been preserved but they have been built to last. And it seems brick is only used in very expensive homes here. So much of the multi family housing has gone the way of lazy psuedo modernist monstrosities that will last no longer than 10 15 yrs if we are lucky. They lack creative expression. But instead reaks of capitalist developers and architects tears. Just on a small scale i have experimced working for investors and tbier ideas if "good" design. Its damaging to the soul. And it makes you dislike the fact that you have work with them. U less you praxtice outsixe of the typical model. But i got off topic. This was about colombia and its penchant for brick. Legend has it that the city architect of BOGOTA had a strong predilection for brick. Hence the reason so much brick is embeded in the city from skyscrapers to roads. Rhe craftmanship of many if these buikdings was absolutely beautiful. The interplay of surfaces achieved by great design and skilled masons..The city courted a romance with me on a few levels. One of them bieng with a new found lust for brick. #bogota🇨🇴 #bogota #cartagena #archlife #architecturereview #colombia #colombianarchitecture #203narcostour #architecture_lovers (at Colombia) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwuislIhRAg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wiwhj4kgys26
Wait a minute. A building in Atlanta i actually like?😂😂😂 The architecture in this city is so inconsistent and mediocre that it surprises me when i find something worth actually studying past a quick glance. But to be fair midtown is making some interesting structures. The building reminds me of a giant Jenga game. Transporting me back to playfully Stacked rectilinear blocks offset from one another while you use the basic architetural diaologue of "push & pull" to elicit change in volumetric relationships. The interesting thing here is the play of proportion being carried out. We see 4 balconies in relationship to 2 balconies. That breaks down to a 2:1 proportional system. This system also shows up in how the rectilinear mass is divided centrally to create two rows of windows. Each row representing a storie, altho the block reads as one mass do to the framing around the windows. This 2:1 proportional system is one of my favorites and is used in japanese architecture. IT IS derived from tatami mats. They were design to accomodate 2 people sitting. Or 1 person laying down. This was a cool little project in the city. Maybe ATL will finally develop a style of its own. But i wont hold my breath. #archlife #architecture #architecturereview #atlantaarchitecture #archreview #architecturaldesign #architecturephotography (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwr36mWhZ6i/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=5g0vx346f29g
