What love language(s) do you think Jackie and Hyde have?
I’m guessing you mean based on The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. (If you mean something else, feel free to send me another ask to specify. :D).
Jackie: all five love languages fit her: receiving gifts, words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, and acts of service. But they change in priority as she grows and changes.
During her relationship with Hyde, receiving gifts recedes and acts of service takes far more precedence (e.g., being a pancake flipper at her Girl Scout Alumni Breakfast, helping her clear out her family’s ski cabin, taking her to the high school Christmas dance -- and dressing nicely for it while pretending to be rich -- even though he’d graduated the year previously, etc.).
Unlike Kelso, Hyde doesn’t do well with giving words of affirmation, so accepting his acts of service has to compensate for that. As she says to Kitty in “The Acid Queen” (6x04), “How do I know if [Steven] loves me if he doesn’t obey me?”
“The Acid Queen” is, in part, about showing how acts of service is Jackie’s love language in her relationship with Hyde.
Hyde: Physical touch, quality time, words of affirmation. The last of these makes sense since his mom is verbally abusive to him during his whole childhood until she abandons him. It also makes sense that he’s not good at giving words of affirmation (if we ignore his characterization with Jackie during the last fourth of season 2) since he received the opposite regularly.
