The Utopia Complex- my OC's Lavie x Ardou
Ardou ducked under the laser fire and missiles. He held his machete ready for whoever might come at him next.
It was the first battle of Cynosure Valley, with the Empress' Andrones capturing and slaughtering Jumpers left and right. Anyone in the white starched uniform was fair game for them. The maroon-painted robotic slaves shot laser bursts and were mowing down whoever wasn't hiding behind magical shields cast by the spell masters from the magical college.
Larenn, a Nax Wizard helped Ardou to shield himself and a few others with his wide glowing green barrier.
"Lar, have you seen Lavie??!" Ardou asked fervently. He'd lost track of her a few minutes ago and his heart was racing.
Larenn looked around, holding his spell out with outstretched arms. "I can't see her! Check behind me!" Bursts of red energy thundered and dispersed on his shield.
Ardou, officially know as Lizard-zero, Lizo to some friends, had a special relationship with his battle partner, Lavie. She was a human girl genius with a sarcastic attitude and wry sense of humor. He was a Lizard-man, who was totally and irrevocably in love with her.
She didn't know, of course. His gruff exterior and stern scolding of her bad jokes made sure of that. He was dour and a straight shooter. And also completely worried about her all the time. She was stupidly reckless and seemed to run into trouble without thinking, but she always came out in one piece. That knowledge was the only thing keeping him from losing his mind with worry.
He searched the battlefield for her, his ears open for the clangs of her hammer. During an oddly silent moment he heard her cry.
"GET DOWN YOU BIG DUMBASS!"
He was tackled from behind and hit the dirt as a missile flew over their heads and exploded not far away. He turned and she rolled over, facing her with a concerned expression as they both huffed, out of breath.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" He growled
"YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!" She scolded, getting up. She turned away and threw her warhammer at the androne with the missile launcher, smashing into its chestplate and blowing it up.
She turned to him with crazy eyes. "Stop worrying about me! You're so busy looking out for me, you're gonna get your head blown off!"
He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her closer behind the shield. "Somebody has to look out for you! You act like a reckless fool, running into danger and away from me! Only I can protect you out here!"
"Dude...rude." Larenn made a face, still holding the shield.
Then she made that face. That danged determined face that said she was about to prove him wrong whether he liked it or not.
She eyed him with a frown, shook her arm out of his grip and stood her ground with a deep breath. She pulled a grenade from her belt and threw it over the shield, blowing up a squad of approaching robots, all while still looking him in the eye.
"Thank you!" Larenn groaned thankfully.
"You handle yours. I'll handle mine." She said low and slow.
She went to go retrieve her hammer, and honestly, truthfully...Ardou had such a hard on for her right at that moment. What a woman.
"That was hot...So when you gonna tell her, dude?" Larenn grinned wryly, knowing about his crush quite clearly now.
"...shut up..." he grumbled, adjusting himself awkwardly and following her cute butt into battle, just like always.
