Heyyyy! What's the "back that thing up" in the wip folder one? Haha seems like something happened haha
“back that thing up” is DEFINITELY me realizing that we took a wrong turn somewhere XD For How To Date A Jewish Werewolf, a lot of our backing up came from figuring out... well, the whole plot lol. We knew starting out that Chris would turn out to be a latent werewolf, but figuring out how to trigger her change meant a lot of false starts. We backed up to include an incident that put Chris in the hospital, and gave us this scene:
Courtney slipped out and Dr. Lydia waited, letting the heavier silence settle. With a sigh, she started, "Chris, do you know what a latent is?"
At her confused shake of her head, Lydia nodded. "A latent is someone born human, but within them are the genetics for something not human. Generally the more distant the relation, the weaker that latent power is, until eventually that person will present as completely human. In very rare circumstances, that latency will wake up, and sometimes someone who was previously thought to be only human will begin to express shapeshifter traits. Does that make sense?"
Chris shook her head. "I mean, yes? But I don't..."
"You're reacting to this entire ordeal as a wolf would." Lydia explained gently.
"But..." Chris frowned harder, wincing as she made to sit up and Aaron urged her to stay down. "That's only... I mean, we spent all weekend together, Courtney said-"
"She was seeing the effect of the latency beginning to wake up. It's very rare, I'm not surprised that she didn't know what she was looking at."
Chris stared at her and the doctor gently said, "It’s hard to say if it's emerged enough that you face any risk of shifting, but it will be best if someone who can help you through a change be close by until we know for certain."
"It's a lot to process, so I'm going to leave you to it. A nurse will be by shortly to help transfer you to the touch therapy room. You'll need to eat," her gaze flicked to Brent, "and keep hydrated. I'll be by to check on you later."
And with that, she left them to the shocked silence of the room
