Had sudden flashbacks to the MLP AU idea I made once that was like... elements from G4 and G5 thrown together into a blender with the more lore heavy and serialized feel of the DreamWorks She-ra and Voltron reboots.
insanity under the cut for the morbidly curious:
All of the pony races are seperated and are prejudiced against others outside their communities. Alicorns used to be common, and ruled as the royal class until they all went to war against each other wiping them all out. Many fell to corruptive magic.
Argyle is the father of Twilight and Shining. He and his son are earth ponies, while Twilight is a unicorn. Their community is very earth pony centric, with the only unicorns living there being Twilight and Sunburst the local Crystaller (Crystalling in this AU is a coming of age ritual that reveals the cutiemark of a young pony and hints at their destiny). She's obsessed with learning more about magic, which just upsets everypony more. The only friend she has in town is Applejack.
When she gets her mark, hinting at magic being a big part of her destiny, she's basically banished from the town. Applejack goes with her, an act of defiance that she struggles to justify at times, but knows deep down that she needs to be there for Twilight.
Along the way, Twilight begins to practice her magic more and more, learning to become a better sorceress. This is also when they end up meeting the rest of the Mane 6.
Pegasi hierarchy is based on what kind of weather they control, with rainbows being the rarest since you'd have to be fast enough to bend literal light. As such, Rainbow Dash is revered by the pegasi population. She likes the attention, but it can also get far too overwhelming for her.
Pinkie Pie is a cloud pegasus born to a mist pegasi family. She's very bubbly, but always seemed like a bit of an outcast among the other pegasi. She also isn't quick to judge ponies of other races, barely even noticing unless it's pointed out to her.
Fluttershy is an earth pony who had pegasi parents. They managed to keep her hidden from prying eyes for a few years; making her a temporary pair of useless wings out of clouds. But when the time came for her to start taking flying lessons, her parents sent her to live on the ground with a zebra sorceress named Zecora. Fluttershy has a fascination for natural magics, such as potions and plant growth, and cares deeply about animals.

Uhhhhhhhhh...... characters like Chrysalis, Stygian, and Sombra are all corrupted Alicorns in this story. Starswirl (also an Alicorn) raised Sombra, Stygian, Celestia, and Luna as his own children. He befriended and formed the Pillars with normal civilian ponies, which angered Stygian, who believed that Alicorns weren't meant to make themselves lesser. He became corrupt, destroyed Starswirl, and started the Alicorn war.
Sombra was hexed by Chrysalis (pre-corruption for both of them) into loving her. They had a daughter, Cadance, and ruled the Crystal Empire together. Eventually the love spell began to fade, which led Chrysalis to cast a spell on herself to make her more beautiful/irresistible (?) which failed, turning her into a changeling. Sombra finds her in this new form and doesn't recognize her, chasing the "monster" away and falling into despair at the loss of his wife. This event plus further temptation from Stygian is what causes Sombra to become corrupted and for the Crystal Empire and Cadance to go into hiding.
All other Alicorns, corrupted or otherwise, end up destroying each other. Celestia and Luna stuck together until the end, when Celestia began to distrust her sister as well. They fought, the outcome was indeterminant? Idk the ideas I had contradict each other so...
They'd either both be banished to the sun and moon respectively, Celestia would become corrupted and Luna would have to trap her in the sun, with ponies misinterpreting Luna as the villain in the scenario, or they'd both still be around, and/or Luna would've been around long enough to end up being Twilight's birth mom. Yeah, that's the one big twist. Twilight is Luna's daughter.
Oh yeah, Sunset was going to show up as well, being a half-Alicorn like Twilight, but being much much older (Alicorns are immortal, so aging is slowed dramatically once a half-Alicorn reaches adulthood). Her goal is to take over Celestia's role as sun-god-princess, and she ends up becoming corrupt and turning into a Nirik?
I also think the epilogue thing was that Twilight becomes an Alicorn, but decides to destroy herself to prevent another holy war from breaking out. So she makes a new pony out of her magic.... who's also her and Applejack's daughter (they were lesbians the whole time).... who's also Sunny... who gets given to Argyle to raise ?????
So yeah there's a lot of conflicting elements. Glad I stopped working on this one tbh.
Named after the former Element of Kindness, Flutter Brightglow is a very kind soul. She’s pretty shy when it comes to other ponies, but as a historian, she is open-minded and passionate about inclusiveness and belonging.
i finally finished designing the side characters for my g5 mlp au!! i'm sure i'll adjust these designs more later, but for now, here are my visions. now i can finally start drawing more stuff for this au!

It was high time that the Generation 5 crowd got a piece using my latest methods and techniques. I need to do more with Gen 5, I know. They can be trickier to work with, there's just less of Gen 5 overall than there is of Gen 4. And make no bones about it, Tell Your Tale just isn't my cup of tea really. So, I suppose my first rewatch of Make Your Mark, and a fourth watching of A New Generation are both coming sooner rather than later.
