The importance of being Bertholdt
First of all, sorry for my bad english. I am used to writing in Italian and I apologize if some concepts appear to be confusing or my grammar is wrong.
Just for "fun" or, better, for clarity because I do not have time or desire to arguing with those who do not want to listen not even the author's voice about his product and his characters. But this is my space and I decide to use it to refute the thesis according to which Bertholdt is only a "red shirt" to explain in the Star Trek manner. Isayama has never insulted his characters in this way, he has always treated them with the same respect he has reserved for his admirers and for the admirers of these characters. I'm a big fan of Bertholdt and of the Marley Team: Zeke, Reiner, Annie, the Tybur Brothers, the Galliard Brothers, Pieck-Chan, the little Warriors, Theo Magath, the Gatekeepers, the dumb high military command of Marley and Admiral Carby. Every single character of the Marley side including the panzer unit, I really love those guys and I will miss them a lot. But. This does not mean that I desire the death or suffering of the SC side of history. We are always talking about imaginary characters to which we are linked, involved in their stories, share in their pain... but it is still fictional. So I do not understand how anyone can invest so much time in their lives vomiting hate on the other's fandome. I do not hate Armin or Eren or the other boys of the 104th for having sentenced Bertholdt to death and I do not blame Armin for becoming the new Colossal Titan on the contrary, I was expecting nothing more than to see him appear in the number 103 because I know that within him, in some way, Bertholdt exists and still lives. I hope Armin will meet Reiner and Reiner will be able to confront the death of his friend. What I do not appreciate is someone decides to take possession of things NEVER said by the author to define Bertholdt "...was indeed nothing just a vessel for the Colossal Titan...". So, once again just for fun, I prefer to use facts rather than many words.
Here Isayama confirms that it is not true that "nobody cared about Bertholdt at the moment of his death". The 104th boys were upset by the battle, by the loss of their comrades, they were aware that they had not really "won" the war but they had to save Armin and they were confronted with the horror of turning their friend into a monster that has devoured another friend of theirs.
This is another Isayama response during the Q&A of March 2018. So, more Bertl incoming!
Lastly this panel taken from the number 103. The Colossal Titan makes its appearance and the first, immediate thought of Galliard goes to his friend Bertholdt upsetting him to the point of making it break the lines of the formation and throw himself against the source of all that pain: Eren. So to put it in the words of Aripawz “Nobody cares about Bertholdt anymore” MY. ASS.
