I've not written in a week. I was doing well, then migraines, then stress has had me reeling a bit, and now I'm tied up in the Trick or Treat Halloween thing lol
But the last line I wrote was...
For a moment, she thought he was actually going to answer, but then his mouth snapped shut and he turned to face Andric fully, finally putting his back to Lizzy.
"Another fey," he said instead, sounding surprised.
So, I'm not working on Stolen right now, but as I was falling asleep last night I got a little rhyme pop into my head. Which is how almost all my poetry arrives, and why I'm useless at writing it consistently.
But this one was super cute, and it fit with the coinage I've worldbuilt for Moryann (copper bits, silver strikes, gold coins, platinum pieces). It also helps to explain why beachcombing is a common job, in coastal towns, for the poor of Moryann.
I'd also love to include it in a prequel short story I've been toying with for this series too, so maybe it'll make it's way into a book eventually. For now it's just a worlddbuilding fragment I wanted to share.
Sea travel is common in Moryann, so when Sailors spot stormclouds on the horizon they'll mutter this under their breath, and toss the appropriate 'payment' into the sea.

The Fey Touched Trilogy
Work In Progress Wednesday; Most Recent Lines
"Lizzy Hail," Andric murmured softly, "the five-foot-three bundle of stubbornness and determination. The young woman who won't back down from anything. Not even a rabid kavian. Not even when I've spent weeks teaching her how to run from one. Whose telekinesis was strong enough to protect herself and her friend."
Carefully Lizzy opened her eyes, and turned to look at Andric. He'd moved even closer, and was now leaning one shoulder against the tree she had her back pressed against, staring down at her with an infinitely gentle expression that made her heart slam against her chest.
"What are you doing?" she asked softly, and the corners of his mouth twitched up into a familiar flash of a smile.
"I'm being honest with you," he answered gently.

"Faith of the Grim" has been a stand-alone story idea that's been with me for over ten years, since 2012, but it took some time to take shape and form in my mind.
Krysis is a grim reaper. Her entire existence is spent collecting the souls of the recently departed, and herding them along to whichever afterlife they spent their lives believing in the most strongly.
The downside to meing a reaper is that she never gets to experiance the next life herself. She, and all other reapers, are eternal, and Krysis is bored of eternity.
That is until she goes to collect a soul, and discovers a human on the cusp of becoming a minor deity. A paramedic, his medical efforts combined with his budding powers snatches the soul Krysis is there to collect from her grasp, and brings his patient back from the edge of death.
Suddenly, eternity doesn't look quite as boring anymore.
Barring no unforseen circumstances, I hope to release "Faith of the Grim" around Autumn 2025.
Pulling from THIS PROMPT LIST I’ll be doing the 31 Days of Wayhaven, or at least giving it a good go!
All prompts will be about my Canon-Detective, Malia Corvidae (Mason Romancer, Nate BFF)
Day 006
Prompt: Bite
Synopsis: When Mason meets Bobby, Malia has to think of a creative distraction, exceedingly quickly, to help Mason, Unit Bravo and the supernatural community as a whole, remain hidden from the local reporter.

"Your escort home has arrived," Tina teased, her body curved around the doorframe to Malia's office, a grin on her lips. Malia would have scolded Tina for her teasing, except she couldn't help her own smile as she quickly left her office before the computer had finished shutting down.
Mason lingered, with the offer to see her safely home every time his patrol ended in the area, and Tina was forever teasing Malia about his consistent attentions. Their new normal was Malia grabbing her leather jacket before accepting her bag from Tina, who was already holding the door to the station open for her.
This time, though, Tina's grin had been replaced with a grimace.
"What?" Malia asked, eyes widening as she marched over to the door to see what had soured Tina's expression.
"This isn't going to be pretty," the woman warned, hanging Malia's bag on the Detective's shoulder as her friends already pale face lost what little colour it had.
Dashing out of the station, barely checking for cars, Malia made a direct path towards Mason who had been approached by none other than her ever problematic Ex-boyfriend.
Mason saw her approaching, grey eyes settling on her over Bobby's shoulder, filled with irritation and not a shred of patience, but as she stepped closer she watched his gaze snap back to Bobby in an instant.
"What did you say?" the vampire growled. Malia was close enough to see the subtle shift from bored, into Mason readying to attack.
"...any inside dirt on Detective Corvidae, and the paper would be willing to pay you-"
Malia had a strong urge to punch Bobby, but the flash of panic she felt wasn't for the bottom-feeding reporter, it was in response to the growing snarl on Mason's lips, the narrowing of his eyes, and the growl she could feel vibrating through the air.
She ignored Bobby, stepping past him to quickly place herself between Mason's feet, rising up onto her toes to kiss him
A crude method of masking his growing fangs from the reporter, but it was the only option she'd been able to think of. She could hear Bobby spluttering behind her, but her focus was on Mason. Still tensed, and although the growling had stopped he hadn't kissed her back.
Carefully aware of Mason's hyper senses, Malia gently nipped at his bottom lip and was quite suddenly being devoured.
Pulled closer with a bruising grip on her hips, she let her fingers slide soothingly into Mason's hair, stroking gently through the strands until she felt his shoulders settle. He kissed along her jaw until his lips found his favourite spot against her neck where his now blunt teeth settled against her skin, and she somehow knew without a doubt that he was glaring over her shoulder at a stunned Bobby.
"Take me home?" she breathed softly and he agreed with a single soft grunt. Mason pulled back slowly, slung an arm around her shoulders, and led her away.

One eyebrow arched slowly, and Booker backed down almost immediately, running both hands through his messy hair.
“You want to place a blade in my hand and teach me to kill,” Booker muttered, and Lizzy’s breath caught as the pieces began falling into place. “And I… I can’t even lie and say I want you to. I don’t.”
“Booker?” Lizzy asked softly, waiting until he looked at her, before reaching out unsteadily to touch his mind. He let her in, but his emotions were almost overwhelming. The pain, the regret, the self-disgust over the way he’d ravaged Olwen’s mind.
But there was more buried there. More than Booker’s natural dislike of fighting, or the fears she’d managed to pull from him when he could hide parts of himself in the shadows of the night. But this tremulous fear; this was about his parents.
"You're kidding?" Lizzy asked, finally turning to face him again, frowning at him as he grimaced.
"Lizzy—"
"Andric," she cut him off, "this is the eighth vampire clan we've visited in the last six weeks, and we have nothing to show for it."
"I know it seems that way, but—"
"Seems?" Lizzy growled, because no matter how much she felt drawn to Andric, he could still get under her skin faster than anyone else she'd ever met.

[...]he paused as he tried to think of something that would reassure her.
It was difficult when he was fairly sure he was about to get a painful lesson in humility, but after a moment Andric tugged his leather jacked off and draped it around her shoulders, the leather half drowning her as he offered her a playful wink.
"Look after that for me, alright?" he asked her, the ache in his chest easing as she slipped her arms into the sleeves and the hint of a smile tugged the frown off her face.
Andric let one hand rest on her elbow before he dropped a gentle kiss to her temple. Turning, he stalked after the other vampire, refusing to let himself glance back at the fey woman and taking comfort in the fact that at least his beloved jacket would come out of this encounter unscathed.
