I figured out I will have 19 chapters in my SilverFlint fic, and I’m working on Chapter 15 right now. Plotted and partially handwritten the rest, so...*pats self on back* It’ll be around... 60k I think??

Posting my fic chapter by chapter, knowing I’m not done but knowing also I have enough done that if I post every few days, I’ll probably be able to finish in time to keep up the schedule

OR

Waiting until I’m finished with my entire fic before posting, which would amount to sticking to my guns

The path he stands on stretches across the lawn, and disappears under a moon gate into the inviting dappled light beyond. 

Drawn to the garden, James follows the path, and once past the gate, it’s as if he’s entered another world.

Ferns and large variegated leafed plants dominate the ground, and tree leaves rustle with the soft breeze. It’s shady and cool. The air smells redolent with green growing things, soil, and flowers blooming, and James breaths deep. 

Yeah, he needs this. This is feeding his soul.

Because I love to torture myself, I have started a new fic, that will probably definitely be a longfic, an AU (my lane, HELLO) where I am continually finding myself losing time to the pit of research. So, I thought I’d torture you, too. Here are some of the things I have looked up:

Royal British Navy training and career paths, and when can a member retire

Hedgerows (loose term, really)

Nautical antiques

Petrol stations in Hungerford, England (no kidding. There’s three.)

Motorway names 

convertible cars in England 

The oldest building in Bristol (with variations of: stone, brick, wood, inns, pubs, churches)

Farmland in England (There’s like...a LOT. I never knew.)

English fishing industry on the eastern coast (apparently there’s a GIANT trawler stealing all the fish right now, and at some point there was a French vs. English scallop war of the coast of Normandy in 2018)

How long is the average trawler? (basically, small to really big)

koi ponds and Hidden gardens

Top alcoholic drinks in England (cocktails or ales...THAT was an interesting research pit. I have several new drinks I want to try, though...)

Letters of marque (I already knew a bit here)

Is it legal to keep Spanish galleon coins if you find one? (depends)

How are the gas pedals on an English car set up? (same as everywhere else)

I watched several videos on a certain English ship. Like several. And now I want to see it in person.

Favorite English desserts (another interesting research pit. I have an overall NOPE feeling about English desserts except for crumble)

Historical building plaques (they’re blue in England, in case you’re wondering)

For me, writing a fic is like...I’m happily writing along, when I suddenly get another plot bunny idea, so I open another tab and another document and randomly write 1K words of brain dump scene and dialogue and feelings that have nothing to do with what I am currently writing that I want to write more on but I can’t because I’m writing the first thing and then my motivation for the first thing goes out the window and then I get overwhelmed and I shut my laptop, and then it happens all over again the next day.

So I got THAT going for me. Which is nice.
