Happy spring from the hens and their mighty rooster! Our lilac is blooming, filling the air with its sweet smell, and we’re not the only ones bobbing around sniffing it! The chickens are out and about, enjoying the tasty, new spring growth, and we’ve just welcomed some new chicks to the Case Vecchie family!
The farm is abuzz with activity!

Fava bean time! We harvest the first favas of the season today--the young and tender ones for future fritellas! Happy fava season everyone!

A look into the Case Vecchie garden. Though it is technically winter in Sicily, we have been so lucky to have so many things to eat from the garden, like cauliflower, kales, broccoli, salad greens and more. Jack and Katy our gardeners have also been working the students planting for the growing season ahead. Here are some photos of what's growing.
Yesterday we had Corrado Assenza the renowned pastry chef from Caffé Sicilia in Noto spend the day with us in the kitchen. While Corrado did not make any pastries with us he shared his passion for using quality ingredients, unique techniques and a gentleness in cooking that is often overlooked.

Costa’s Palmento
We’ve just wrapped up a new beautiful documentary, from an idea of Fabrizia’s, documenting the old way of wine making--grapes crushed by the feet of the Costa’s family in an old Palmento on Salina. It makes a beautiful and poetic film of wine making!
