Ok folks! Here’s some demiromantic Jaskier/ Ace Geralt (feat. a prostitute or two)

This idea was by my ever lovely friend @slythnerd who gave me a bullet list fic and I offered to write it! This is smutty. Do not read if you are under 18. I’ve also never written anything like this before. So be kind? __________

What do you call a bard who’s never fallen in love?

A bad joke, perhaps. The answer is Jaskier. A bard famed for his romantic poetry and exploits and yet he’s never once felt that flutter in his heart strings when he’s looked at someone beautiful. So he keeps trying, over and over and over. He falls into beds of lovers all over the Continent and earns himself quite the reputation. He enjoys sex. He’s good at sex but dearest Melitele he yearns for more. He wants love.

He’s a poet and a romantic and he wants love.

He’s twenty six when he gives up on romantic love for himself. Love is a beautiful and enriching adventure but not one that he will ever experience.

Or so he thinks.

He’s twenty eight when his world is completely turned upside down. After travelling with Geralt for a decade he’s sure that the witcher cannot surprise him any further. That’s when the dreams start. He dreams of holding the witcher’s hand as they walk down the path, Roach trailing after them. He dreams of kissing Geralt goodbye whenever they part, be it for winter or just for the evening. He dreams of waking up each morning wrapped in a lover’s embrace. He dreams of Geralt saying those words.

And for once in his short life, those words don’t scare him. They don’t make him want to run away. They don’t feel him with dread and a sense of inadequacy. He dreams of Geralt saying those words… and he dreams of saying them back.

It’s a startling realisation and one that has him scrambling for his notebook and quill. He stays up all night scribbling away in his messy scrawl until his feelings are left staining the page.

He’s exhausted and giddy with love when he sees Geralt the next morning over breakfast but instead of joy he’s hit with icy dread. How could Geralt ever love him back? He’s been sleeping around, quite unashamedly for the last ten years and it’s gotten them both into more trouble than Geralt’s contracts.

Fuck.

So the smile falls from his face and he pretends that nothing has changed.

Everything has changed and Geralt fucking knows it.

After three days of tense silence every unspoken word explodes between them.

“Just fucking say something, Jaskier!” Geralt yells across the campfire.

“I can’t!” Jaskier buries his face in his hands. His heart aches and he wishes he could return to the numb nothingness of before but it’s too late. He loves his best friend and he loves him with all of his heart.

“Why not?” Geralt glowers, eyes ablaze in the light of the flames.

“Because I love you!” Jaskier screams and the words fill the forest like a battle cry. “I love you” He’s rambling now. “and I never thought I could so I just fucked around hoping that someone would be good enough in bed to make me fall in love with them. No one ever was and… and I felt so fucking broken!” He exclaims with a wide wave of his arms. “Broken, useless, unlovable sorry excuse for a bard! But oh no no, turns out it wasn’t a good fuck I needed.” He glares at Geralt, blaming the witcher for his sudden tidal wave of emotions. “turns out I just needed you. My best friend in the whole wide world but I never fucking saw it so I kept screwing around and now you hate me for it and that’s just shit because it turns out… it turns out that I love you. You bastard.”

He’s said too much. He claps his hands over his mouth. “I’m sorry.”

And he runs.

Or at least he tries to. Geralt’s hand in holding his wrist. “Don’t be. Don’t be sorry. Don’t go.” Geralt whispers in the dark of the night. His face lit up by the orange glow of the campfire. “Stay.”

“You. You don’t hate me?” Jaskier asks, his voice cracking pitifully.

Geralt shakes his head. “No. The opposite. I think.”

Jaskier frowns as he tries to decipher Geralt’s riddles. “The opposite? But. but Geralt?”

“I know.”

“Don’t fucking mess with me now, witcher.” Jaskier hisses, his heart is too fragile. He’s not used to any of this torment.

“I’m not.” Geralt sighs. “But I can’t. I don’t want.” He cuts himself off with a low groan and pinches the bridge of his nose.

Jaskier tilts his head. “You don’t want what, Geralt?”

“Sex. I know, the whole Continent knows, how much you love it.”

“Oh hey!” Jaskier protests but really Geralt does have a point. “Hang on, what about Yennefer, or Triss…. or what was her name? With the swords going missing?”

“Coral.”

Jaskier snaps his fingers. “You fucked her for weeks!”

Geralt shrugs. “It’s what they wanted.”

Alarm bells start ringing in Jaskier’s mind. It’s what they wanted, not Geralt. Geralt hadn’t wanted it. “Did they….”

Geralt smiles faintly with a shake of his head. “No. I said yes. It’s what they wanted, what’s expected of me.” His nose wrinkles. “Yen’s unicorn though. Never again.”

Jaskier whimpers as he embraces Geralt tightly. “I will never. I promise you. If you don’t want sex then we don’t have to have sex. Are kisses alright?” He asked with a tilt of his head.

Geralt frowns. “Umm.”

“No then.” Jaskier sighs. “Hugs?”

“Yeah.”  That’s a relief for Jaskier. He’s always needed physical touch and he’s been hugging Geralt for years. The thought that he could have been making his best friend uncomfortable makes him feel sick to his stomach. “What about you?” Geralt asks. “You love sex.”

Jaskier shrugs. “I have two hands.” He winks. “And I’ve heard mages sell all sorts of enchanted toys these days. I’ll manage.”

Geralt shakes his head. “No. I can’t take that from you.”

“But I love you. Do you know how much that means to me Geralt?” Jaskier says quietly, staring down at his feet, fingers pulling at his sleeves. “I never thought that I could.”

“What if you still have sex with others?” Geralt suggests and Jaskier just gapes at him.

“You. You mean that?”

“Yeah.”

“You wouldn’t be jealous?” Jaskier asks.

Geralt raises an eyebrow at him. “You love me, after fucking your way around the Continent. You love me.”

Jaskier licks his lips and nods. “I do. Fucking mother of… I love you.” The words still sound like heaven on his tongue. He would never get used to saying them even if he lived for a hundred years. “I love you.”

Geralt laughs softly and strokes Jaskier’s cheek with his thumb. “I love you too. I trust you. You’ll come back to me. You always have.”

Jaskier joins in with Geralt laughter. The witcher is right. Even before his epiphany Jaskier always returned to Geralt whether it’s after years apart, or merely after a quick romp in the hay. He would come back to Geralt until his dying breath.

So they settle into a new routine. Geralt enjoys sharing a bedroll or bed at the inn when they can but doesn’t begrudge Jaskier if he finds another partner for the night. He rarely stays with them after sex now though. He has his heart to return to and that’s better than any carnal delight. Geralt glares at him as if he’s grown a second head but Jaskier can’t let go of the idea now. It’s seared into his mind. The thought of Geralt… watching him.

Geralt and Jaskier had been in their weird sort of relationship for two months when it happened. They were at a banquet, a reward for breaking the curse on a nobleman’s child, when a rather gorgeous lady strolled up to Geralt. Her posture and body language told Jaskier all he needed to know. She wanted Geralt.

It wasn’t unusual. Many people saw some uniquely beautiful in Geralt and Jaskier himself had always been drawn to the witcher but it was the first time anyone had propositioned Geralt since their… well… whatever this was. It wasn’t romantic, Jaskier had made sure of that but… it wasn’t strictly platonic either. Whatever feelings Jaskier had for Geralt were more important than any other friendship that he’d had before. It was why they’d decided to make it some kind of relationship, committed to each other as dearest of friends.

“Aren’t you handsome?” the brunette said in a low voice as she touched Geralt’s arm. The witcher didn’t react anymore than to gently pull away from her grip, standing closer to Jaskier.

“Geralt it’s ok,” Jaskier whispered as he looked inconspicuously around the room. “We’re friends, you can go with her.”

Geralt snorted. “Sorry I’m not interested,” he muttered, not unkindly to the woman. “I’m here with my friend.”

“Oh, I’d heard rumours about a bard and a witcher but I didn’t realise you were together,” she seemed taken aback but nodded, clearly disappointed, and then walked away. “Have a good evening,” she called over her shoulder.

“You didn’t need to do that,” Jaskier said softly, patting Geralt’s cheek. “We agreed you can sleep with whoever you want, even date if you want. I know Yennefer…” Jaskier trailed off.

“I know what we agreed,” Geralt murmured and took Jaskier’s hand in his, lacing their fingers. “But I’m here with you. Unless you were looking for—”

“No!” Jaskier interrupted too hastily. “No,” he repeated more quietly “not tonight at least. I like being here with you. I just. I. I don’t want to be a burden you. I know I’m not enough,” he admitted, feeling a lump in his throat as he spoke.

Broken.

Always broken.

Always alone.

“You’re enough.”

Geralt’s voice, firm and unwavering broke him out of the spiral as fingers pressed against his wrist. “More than enough. You’re Jaskier.”

Jaskier laughed and leant against his witcher’s shoulder. “Eloquent as always my dearest witcher,” he teased. “I love you.”

“I know,” Geralt hummed.

Jaskier smiled softly. It felt nice to tell Geralt that he loved him. It was true, he did love the witcher, very much. Geralt was his best friend, more than that, Geralt was… Jaskier found he didn’t have the right word for it but Geralt was… something important. Geralt was safe, no need to worry about leading him on. The witcher was more than aware of Jaskier’s emotional needs, and Jaskier never had to worry about breaking Geralt’s heart. They just weren’t like that.

He was freeing in its simplicity.

It was love, pure and willingly given, in perhaps its truest form of all.

People assumed many things about Jaskier the bard. They assumed blue was his favourite colour; it wasn’t. He loved the way the colour looked on him but he was fond of yellow. Yellow was warmth. It was sunshine, buttercups, golden mead, and the colour of his witcher’s eyes, but they assumed he loved blue.

They were wrong.

They also assumed that he fell in love easily; he didn’t. They weren’t exactly wrong but they weren’t right either. He was a romantic at heart, he was a bard after all, and he loved… in a way. He fell in love with the idea of a person. He saw them from across the room and wondered, yearned, imagined what it might be like to love them, to hold their face in his hands and shower them with love and affection. Sometimes they fell into bed together. Sometimes he even enjoyed cuddling and kissing them after. Sometimes it even happened more than once.

But sometimes it happened one too many times.

“I love you,” they would say.

And just like that the whole illusion was shattered. He froze, walls up, heart turned to stone.

He’d stammer some excuse and run.

And then he’d wallow in self-pity and guilt, writing the whole affair into ballads and poems; stories where he got to say “I love you too.”

“Jaskier,” Geralt’s fingers snapped in front of his face, pulling him from his spiral.

He plastered a fake smile on his face and clapped his hand on the witcher’s back. “She dumped me,” he lied “I will die a brokenhearted man.”

Geralt raised an eyebrow. “You say that every time.”

Jaskier stammered before pointing at the witcher. “I do not!”

“Hmm.”

“I don’t! I’m a poet, a wordsmith! I have range!”

Geralt snorted. “It’s like the monsters.” Jaskier put his hand on his hip and gestured for Geralt to explain. “All words no truth, doubt you’ve ever really been in love.”

Jaskier froze. No, no no no. This wasn’t right. Geralt was terrible at feelings… wasn’t he? How had the witcher seen through his lies? His hands started to shake. He couldn’t do this. Geralt would think he was broken.

He was right.

“Jaskier?” “Hmm?”

“You know that would be alright? If you hadn’t?” Geralt’s voice was low, soft… grounding.

He bit his lip and hummed again. “Yeah sure,” even to his ears the words were unconvincing.

“My brother, Eskel… he’s the same.”

Jaskier blinked and looked at Geralt, really looked at him. His honey eyes were filled with worry, lips pressed together in a thin line. “The same?”

“Mhmm,” Geralt nodded.

“And you don’t think I’m broken?”

Geralt let out a quiet chuckle and gripped his shoulder, it was warm, heavy, reassuring. “No, Jaskier. You are many things, a pain in my arse mostly, but never broken.”

Jaskier felt his face light up and he threw his arms around Geralt. “Thank you,” he hummed in his witcher’s ear.

“Although…”

“No!” Jaskier whined, pulling back to find Geralt smirking at him. “Don’t ruin it, you arse!”

“Your sense of self-preservation could use some work.”

Jaskier whacked Geralt’s arm. “I hate you.”

“And do you know how to do your doublet up, or is this a choice?”

“Geralt, I mean it!” Jaskier huffed, although his laughs gave him away.

“You’re basically asking for trouble,” Geralt gave him a warm smile.

“Says the man that called the Law of fucking Surprise as a joke!” Jaskier countered, Geralt’s despairing groan making him giggle.

“At least I didn’t walk into a succubus’s layer playing the fucking lute,” Geralt shot back.

Jaskier scoffed. “Oh as if you could,” he hadn’t realised how close they’d gotten until Geralt’s eyes flicked down to his lips. He smirked. “Promise not to fall in love with me?”

Geralt’s cheeks blushed ever so faintly, a beautiful rose pink that looked ever so pretty against his pale skin and snow white hair. He nodded. “Promise.”

Jaskier’s fingers gripped onto the rough black fabric of Geralt’s shirt and pulled his friend into a kiss.

The first time Jaskier came to Kaer Morhen the witchers were confused yet curious. They had heard about Geralt’s on and off bard friend a lot over the years and were, overall, delighted to meet him. Geralt had spoken of him highly with such open affection and fondness that Eskel had assumed the pair of them were in a relationship. Lambert had Aiden, after all, and Geralt had his bard.

Eskel had… well he had his goats. He’d tried relationships in the past. There was a part of him that longed for the company. Whenever someone was kind to him and didn’t immediately run for the hills, there was bubble of hope in his chest, that maybe this person would be the one that made him feel those warm overwhelming emotions that all the best poet’s sung about.

Every time he was disappointed. Even when his partners had said that they loved him, or kissed him in the early morning light. There was nothing. Objectively he could see they were attractive. He could see it in their smiles and in the way their eyes twinkled when they laughed. He could see it in the thick dark curls of their hair, or the way the sunlight bounced off golden waves that fell to their waist.

But he wasn’t attracted to them not in the way he longed for, not in the way they wanted of him. Kisses were alright once in a while but he didn’t like it when it developed past that. He felt so indifferent in comparison to his lover’s passion that he just…

He felt lost.

So when Jaskier had thrown his head back and laughed after Lambert had called him Geralt’s boyfriend, Eskel had just stared at the bard.

“Oh ho ho! No.” Jaskier gasped out between laughs. “I’m not. We’re not… we’re just friends.”

Geralt rolled his eyes and crossed his arms in front of his chest, ruffling Jaskier’s hair. “Don’t sound so horrified by the idea of it, Jaskier.”

“Oh shush.” Jaskier swatted him away. “I love you, you bastard, stop fishing for compliments.”

“You just said?” Lambert ran a hand through his hair and furrowed his brow. “Fuck.”

Jaskier sighed and put both hands on his hips. “He’s my best friend. Do you not love your friends, witcher? Fuck, no wonder Geralt took years to bloody admit it. I love him. I’m not in love with him. I don’t go in for romance.” Aiden cackled and swung his arm around Lambert’s shoulders, pressing a sloppy kiss to the redhead’s cheek. “Aww, he’s like you, wolf!”

“Shut up, kitten. Just takes me time. Not all of us fall in love in first sight. It’s gross fairytale shit.” Lambert grumbled but his cheeks lit up in a blush. Eskel frowned. He’d never heard Lambert talk about that before. As far as they’d been aware his relationship with Aiden had been romantic from the start. “What?” Lambert snapped.

“Nothing. Just didn’t know you felt like that.” Eskel grumbled as he scuffed his feet on the floor.

“The vast and beautiful spectrum of love!” Jaskier sang happily and leapt at Geralt. Geralt grunted but caught the bard in his arms. “Melitele knows it is a bard’s bread and butter.”

“Even if you don’t feel it at all?” Eskel muttered quietly.

Jaskier pouted and cupped Geralt’s cheek before jumping back onto the floor. He strolled over to Eskel with a tilt of his head. “Do you love your fellow witchers?”

Eskel frowned and nodded. “They’re family.”

“And the goats?” Jaskier smirked.

Eskel laughed. “Course I do. I’m their dad.”

“What about me? I know you don’t know me that well yet but I like to think we’re friends?” Jaskier looked up at him with wide eyes.

Eskel sighed at the bard’s dramatics. “Fine, yes. You’re not bad bard.”

“Not bad?! Geralt! Tell him.” Jaskier poked Eskel in the chest. “I’m a fucking delight, witcher!”

“Hmm.” Eskel rolled his eyes and swatted Jaskier’s hands away.

“The point is!” Jaskier announced with a flourish. “Love, sex, romance, it can be whatever the fuck you want it to be. Even if you realise that it’s not for you. You glorious witcher, you.”

Eskel offered Jaskier a broad smile and clapped him over the back. “Thank you, bard. That. That means a lot.”

Jaskier beamed up at him and patted him on the shoulder. “Anytime, my dear Eskel, anytime.”

Geralt, Jaskier, Lambert and Renfri get together to have some (platonic) fun on Feb. 14th. Mature language, mostly because Lambert exists.

“So Jask, you have plans for Sunday?” Geralt asked as they ate breakfast in their kitchen. Jaskier sat on the counter munching a strawberry pop tart while Geralt leaned against the counter across from him with a bowl of scrambled eggs. 

“The 14th? Yeah,” Jaskier answered. Geralt looked up, surprised.

“Oh?”

“Yup. Me, a tub of Ben & Jerry’s, a couple bottles of cheap rosé, moping…”

Geralt rolled his eyes. 

“No. Listen. New plans,” Geralt said. Jaskier raised his eyebrows. “We’re gonna have a little gathering. Lambert, Renfri, you and I.” Jaskier looked confused. “A friendship party! We’ll play some games, have some drinks, watch a movie…”

“… Ok… But… you know you don’t have to do this, right?”

“What? Have fun with my friends?”

Jaskier shrugged. 

“However will I survive the hardship. I guess you’ll have to do the dishes for the week to make it up to me,” Geralt said. 

“Hey, I thought I had the dramatic role in this house,” Jaskier replied indignantly. 

Geralt smirked at him and tossed him the tea towel.

“Thanks!” He said as he strode out of the kitchen.

Jaskier was setting out chips when the front door slammed open. 

“Hey fuckers, don’t fear, I have arrived! And so has beer.” Lambert strode through the door and pushed it closed. 

“You ever heard of knocking?” Jaskier asked mildly.

“You ever heard of I don’t give a fuck?”

“So nice to see you, Lambert! A joy as always,” Jaskier said. 

“You too, Chuckles.” Lambert clapped a hand on Jaskier’s shoulder as he passed. Geralt came out of the kitchen to see him.

“Hey dipshit, glad you could make it. There’s room for those in the fridge.” He gestured to the case of beer Lambert was carrying as he went over to Jaskier to hand him a blended margarita. 

“Thank you, dear!” Jaskier said, smiling brightly up at his roommate. 

A few minutes later there was a sharp knock at the door. Geralt opened it and let Renfri in. 

“I come bearing rum, coke and donuts,” she announced. 

“Donuts?!” Jaskier exclaimed. 

“They only had hearts, but I fixed them.”

“You…fixed them?”

“We had Halloween sprinkles in the cupboard…” She produced the box of donuts out of the bag. They had skull and ghost sprinkles squished into the red icing. Jaskier took one look and started giggling, quickly doubling over and gasping for breath. 

“… What?” Renfri asked, affronted. Jaskier straightened up, wiping his eyes and trying to catch his breath. 

“No, They’re perfect. I love them, Ren.”

“Ok.”

“A dick,” Lambert said. 

Jaskier shook his head. 

“A dick with balls.” Lambert amended. 

Jaskier rolled his eyes and shook his head more emphatically. He drew over some lines, trying to emphasize his drawing. 

“It is! It’s a dick.” 

“Ugh!” Jaskier threw his hands up in exasperation. 

“Time’s up!” Geralt called out.

“You’re the dick, Lambert,” Jaskier said.

“You’d be lucky to get this dick,” Lambert replied. Jaskier ignored him.

“It’s a dog! It’s obviously a dog.”

“It’s obviously not, you’re a shit artist.”

“Whyyy am I teamed up with you.”

“Because you said brothers teamed up together was an unfair advantage, and we said so was roommates.”

Jaskier sighed and stared at the ceiling.

“We are going to lose so badly.”

“Not my fault you have no artistic talent.”

Jaskier snorted.

“Not my fault you have a one-track mind.”

Lambert shrugged. 

“I will accept my fate if you fetch me a donut?” Jaskier offered. 

“Why would I fetch you a donut?!”

“Because I’m pretty?” Jaskier fluttered his eyelashes at his friend. 

“Fuck that. Get me a donut.”

“You guessed the same wrong answer until we ran out of time! You get us both a donut.”

“Fine. But I’m licking them both.”

“If I get rabies you’re paying for my medical care.”

Lambert barked out a laugh as he headed to the kitchen.

“What, Geralt didn’t have you vaccinated? Thought he was a more responsible pet owner.”

They watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Lambert sprawled across the couch, Jaskier and Renfri on either side of Geralt, sitting against the couch with pillows and blankets and bowls of popcorn. Jaskier and Renfri shouted responses back and forth, and threw popcorn in place of the rice that Geralt had forbidden. Lambert joined in the shouting whenever it was an insult. At the end of the night Lambert and Renfri headed home. Jaskier leaned into Geralt, not wanting to leave his warm side quite yet. 

“Thank you,” Jaskier whispered. 

“Of course,” Geralt murmured back. “Better than moping?”

“Much.”

“I’m glad.”
